DraftKings Underscoreg

DraftKings is not being penalized for meeting industry standards in terms of offers, interface, and smooth transitions between the betting and DFS apps. However, there is room for improvement, particularly in the areas of low bet limits on boosts and high play-through requirements on bonuses.

How to bet in Oregon

Register online or in person

Each sportsbook may have slightly different registration requirements, but most adhere to similar protocols. Ensure you have your personal information (name, address, phone number) and credit card details (number, expiry date, CVV) readily available.

Deposit and claim your bonus

After understanding how the new signup bonus at your sportsbook functions, it’s time to deposit and take advantage of any available bonus offers, although options are limited for incentives at Oregon sportsbooks.

Select and finalize your bet

Congrats! You are now prepared to make a bet. Before getting started, take a moment to get to know the app, kiosk, or physical sportsbook layout. While most operators simplify the process for new bettors, it’s always helpful to understand the layout beforehand.

Once there, you have the freedom to place any wager of your choice, with popular options including moneyline, spread, or total bets. You can also explore team or player props, or start off with a futures bet.

After confirming your desired wagers on your betting card, double check to make sure you have selected the options you want. If everything looks good, choose “Bet” on your app or at your kiosk, or approve your bet at a retail location, and you’re ready to go!

Come sit by the fire, children! Were you aware that Oregon’s sports betting history goes back before the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was even created?

Oregon introduced its first sports betting platform, Sports Action, in 1989. The platform only allowed residents to make parlay bets, with no single-game wagering permitted. Despite its lack of popularity, Sports Action remained operational until July 2007 when Bill HB 3466, driven by concerns from the NCAA and professional sports leagues, led to its discontinuation.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the remainder of Oregon’s sports betting past:

2019: Oregon Introduces Single-Game Betting

A little more than a year after the Supreme Court overturned PASPA, Oregon legislators advanced a bill that would legalize sports betting within the state.

The legislation was met with excitement, but there was a major catch – mobile wagering on collegiate sports was prohibited. This meant that Oregonians were unable to place online bets on NCAA football or college basketball.

In August 2019, Chinook Winds Casino Resort became the first location in the state to offer legal single-game wagering. Just two months later, Oregon’s sports betting market grew with the launch of the state lottery-regulated Scoreboard sportsbook app, giving players the ability to place bets from their mobile devices.

2020: COVID-19 Halts Momentum

Oregon was making progress in monthly sports betting handle when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the industry and the world.

After experiencing four months of handle below $10 million, Oregon finally rebounded in July with a $14 million showing. This sparked an impressive streak for the state, with four consecutive months of handle exceeding $25 million to end the year.

2021: Oregon’s Betting Handle Climbs

As the sports world slowly returns to normal during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Oregon’s sports betting handle has remained steady. Record-breaking numbers were seen in January ($34.9 million) and October ($37.6 million), contributing to the state’s impressive total of $331.5 million for the year.

2022: DraftKings Takes Over in OR

In January 2022, Oregon bettors were excited to learn that DraftKings had officially taken control of sportsbook operations from the Underscoreg app. Bettors quickly familiarized themselves with the popular operator, leading to a 33% increase in handle in February and a 51.7% boost in March compared to the previous year.

In the beginning of 2022, lawmakers made an effort to lift the state’s prohibition on mobile college sports betting. Senate Bill 1503 advanced to committee after a public hearing where tribal representatives and gambling opponents voiced their concerns about the proposal.

Responsible Gaming in Oregon

Oregon, like many other states in the U.S., has implemented measures to protect bettors and provide them with options to address any potential issues that may arise.

The Oregon Problem Gambling Resource site provides players with a variety of resources to assist with their gambling problems. These resources include help lines, live chat or text support, and a section dedicated to strategies for preventing problem gambling.

Sports leagues to bet on

Oregon bettors can expect to find a wide variety of major professional and amateur sports to bet on, including but not limited to:

  • NFL
  • NBA
  • MLB
  • NHL
  • Golf
  • Auto Racing
  • Tennis
  • Soccer
  • MMA

There are only four major markets in Oregon where wagering is prohibited, leaving very few options available.

  • Collegiate sports
  • Politics
  • Entertainment (including awards shows)
  • Esports

Sports bettors have the option to review the leading sportsbooks for individual sports, leagues, playoffs, and categories.

Oregon teams to bet on

Sports enthusiasts in the Pacific Northwest are known for their unwavering dedication, and even though Oregon only has one major professional sports team, the fans in the state are incredibly passionate and devoted to their beloved franchise.

The state is home to both NBA teams and two prominent Pac-12 teams, the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers. Their highly anticipated annual NCAA football rivalry, previously called the “Civil War,” is one of the most exciting sporting events in the state each year.

Here is a glimpse at the only major professional sports teams that call Oregon home:

Portland Trail Blazers betting

Since DraftKings is expected to be the only mobile sports betting operator in the state, it’s not surprising that other sportsbooks may be reluctant to form partnerships. However, many betting companies will still seek agreements in states where they are not operational in order to gain more visibility through signage and branding.

Portland Timbers betting ⚽

The Portland Timbers are a key player in the intense Cascadia soccer rivalry, competing against the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps. Known for their passionate fanbase, the Timbers have a successful history on the field, with three Western Conference championships (2015, 2018, and 2021) and a MLS Cup victory in 2015.

Oregon retail sportsbooks

If you’re looking to place an online bet in Oregon, DraftKings is your sole option. However, if you prefer making in-person bets, you have two other choices. Unfortunately, both retail locations are located just 25 miles apart in the northwest quadrant of the state, making it inconvenient for residents who don’t live nearby.

These are the locations in Oregon where you can place bets in person:

  • Chinook Winds Casino Resort (Chinook Winds Underscoreg, 1777 NW 44th St, Lincoln City, OR, 97367)
  • Spirit Mountain Casino (BetMGM Underscoreg, 27100 SW Salmon River Hwy, Grand Ronde, OR, 97347)

Growth of sports betting 📈

In 2018, the repeal of PASPA by the U.S. Supreme Court led to a significant increase in legal sports betting across the United States. Nearly thirty states have now legalized various forms of sports betting, with the most common regulations involving the approval of online sportsbooks and mobile betting applications. Explore our legal sports betting tracker for detailed information on any state of your choice.

In the last two years, Ohio and Massachusetts have seen great success with their online betting launches. This has provided sports fans with another way to support their favorite teams, while also generating much-needed revenue for the states through licensing fees and taxes.
