After being awarded a license in 2006, SugarHouse Casino faced numerous challenges with city officials before finally opening its first brick-and-mortar location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in September 2010.

Rush Street Interactive (RSI), a gaming operator based in Chicago, now owns SugarHouse. The company introduced its initial casino site, PlaySugarHouse.com, in New Jersey in September 2016, and later expanded to include an integrated sportsbook in August 2018.
