Mystik Dan’s dream of becoming a Triple Crown winner came to an end at the 149th Preakness Stakes, while one of the top horse racing betting sites was offering odds on the Triple Crown.

Mystik Dan shocked everyone by winning the Kentucky Derby in a nail-biting three-way photo finish. Despite being considered a long shot with odds as high as +2500, he emerged victorious in the race.

Unfortunately, his quest to achieve the Triple Crown title came to an end as the thoroughbred placed second in the Preakness Stakes. Mystik Dan made a strong effort to overtake the leader, Seize the Grey, who had longshot odds of +1500 in the race. Despite his valiant effort, Mystik Dan was unable to secure the victory, ultimately losing to Seize the Grey in the final stretch.

There have been 13 Triple Crown winners so far, with Justify being the most recent to achieve the feat in 2018, keeping the total at 13.

The odds for Mystik Dan before The Preakness in 2024 are listed on bet365, as well as a compilation of past horses who have achieved Triple Crown success.

Triple Crown FAQ

Can you explain what the Triple Crown is?

The Triple Crown in horse racing consists of three races, starting with the Kentucky Derby. A horse that wins all three races – the Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes – is crowned as a Triple Crown winner.

Since the inaugural running of the Kentucky Derby in 1875, the prestigious title of Triple Crown winner has been highly sought after. However, only 13 horses have been able to achieve this honor, with some periods seeing multiple winners and others experiencing long stretches without any.

To illustrate, four of the 13 winners were crowned in the 1940s, with the final victory of the decade occurring in 1948. However, there was a significant gap until Secretariat’s iconic win in 1973.
