We had fun with a few Christmas gifts thanks to our accurate anytime touchdown scorer predictions, and now we’re continuing to scan the NFL’s Week 17 schedule in search of some extra cash for the new year from the NFL odds.

By Week 16, our 2023 NFL anytime touchdown scorer predictions had gained 14.45 units. In the extended Christmas slate, we correctly predicted touchdowns from Juwan Johnson of the New Orleans Saints (+600) and Khalil Herbert of the Chicago Bears (+270). These successful picks helped offset our 2-3 record for the week.

The Week 17 picks began with a setback when Cleveland Browns tight end Harrison Bryant did not catch one of QB Joe Flacco’s three passing touchdowns in the Thursday Night Football game against the New York Jets. As a result, our season record now stands at minus-12.45 units after Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott was unsuccessful in scoring on Saturday.

Luckily, we have a packed schedule of games for New Year’s Eve on Sunday.

Based on the odds from our top NFL betting sites, we are making our best prediction for the anytime touchdown scorer in Week 17 of the NFL.

Predictions for Week 17: Sunday touchdown scorers.

Prediction: Jalen Guyton of the Chargers, WR, to score a touchdown anytime in the game against the Broncos (+550 odds on bet365) ⭐⭐⭐

The Denver Broncos have given up 776 receiving yards to opposing wide receivers in their last four games, which ranks them among the top three teams in that category. Despite their solid defense, allowing only two touchdowns to the position, they are expected to face some regression in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers, who present a favorable matchup.

In seven games this season, Jalen Guyton has only caught 10 passes out of 21 targets for 89 yards. However, he has developed a better rapport with Easton Stick as his quarterback, catching three out of four targets in the last two weeks. Despite playing only 49% of the snaps in Week 15 and 24% in the last game, Guyton is now anticipated to have a larger role in Week 17 due to wide receiver Joshua Palmer being out.

Guyton and Johnston are tied for the most projected touchdowns among Chargers receivers on Sunday afternoon, with both players expected to score 0.2 touchdowns. Guyton has odds of +550 to score a touchdown on bet365, while Johnston has the best price of +380 on FanDuel.

Prediction: Justin Jefferson to score a touchdown at any time in the Packers vs. Vikings game, with odds of +135 on FanDuel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Typically, we prefer to target odds higher than +135 in this column. However, value is important, and FanDuel is currently offering great value for the Vikings’ top receiver to score a touchdown for the second consecutive week.

Jefferson is expected to score 0.5 touchdowns on Sunday night. Despite the 50% implied probability translating to odds of +100, we were able to secure a +135 ticket from FanDuel, as BetMGM set the market low at -125.

Jefferson has seen 10 targets in each of the last two games, resulting in a total of 13 receptions for 225 yards. His fourth touchdown of the season was scored against the Detroit Lions last week at home. The Vikings, led by Jefferson, are playing at home for the second consecutive week against an NFC North opponent as they strive for a playoff spot.

The Packers will be missing their top cornerback, Jaire Alexander, for Week 17 as he has been suspended for one game for behavior that is harmful to the team.

Jefferson was absent for the Packers and Vikings’ initial matchup this season in Week 8, yet Minnesota emerged victorious with a 24-10 win at Lambeau Field. In six career games against the Packers, Jefferson has accumulated 478 yards and four touchdowns.

Predictions for touchdown scorers in Week 17 on Saturday.

Prediction: Dak Prescott, the Cowboys quarterback, to score a touchdown at any time in the game against the Lions. (Odds: +400 according to BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐ ❌

In his 15 games, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has only scored two rushing touchdowns. However, he and his team have suffered consecutive losses for the first time in the 2023 season leading up to Week 17. As they prepare to face the Detroit Lions in a crucial all-NFC matchup at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, I am expecting the former MVP frontrunner to deliver a standout performance.

Prescott and the Cowboys will face a struggling Lions team that has allowed five rushing touchdowns and a league-leading 406 rushing yards to quarterbacks this season. Three of those touchdowns and 123 yards were given up in the last four weeks. Although Prescott hasn’t focused on rushing in recent seasons, he had six rushing touchdowns in each of his first three NFL seasons.

Prescott has a 20% chance of scoring 0.2 rushing touchdowns in Saturday’s game, according to our odds converter. To place a bet with a 20% implied probability, we would need odds of at least +400. BetMGM is offering odds of +400, while BetRivers has set the market-low at +280.

Predictions for players scoring a touchdown in Thursday Night Football for Week 17.

Prediction: Harrison Bryant of the Cleveland Browns will score a touchdown (+1300 odds on DraftKings) in the game against the Jets. ⭐⭐⭐ Unfortunately, this prediction was incorrect.

Despite only receiving two targets and recording one reception for just six yards in the past three weeks, Cleveland Browns tight end Harrison Bryant has maintained a consistent presence on the field, playing at least 27% of the snaps in each game. He continues to be a potential target for quarterback Joe Flacco.

Prior to the drought, Bryant had scored touchdowns in consecutive games, including Flacco’s debut start against the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 3. In that game, Bryant caught all five of his targets for 49 yards.

The Jets have the best secondary in the league, only allowing four touchdowns to wide receivers by Week 16. On the flip side, they have given up eight touchdowns to tight ends, tying them with the Rams for the second-highest number allowed to that position.

David Njoku, the Browns tight end, has been excelling in the passing game recently, receiving 31 targets and scoring four touchdowns in the last three weeks. However, with the Jets putting pressure on Flacco to rely more on his tight ends during Thursday Night Football, I am intrigued by the high +1300 odds for Bryant to score another touchdown, compared to the market-leading +185 odds from FanDuel for Njoku to do the same.
