NFL best bets

Many sports bettors tend to overreact to small sample sizes. After carefully examining the available markets and analyzing the NFL odds on our top sports betting apps, we have identified four NFL best bets for Week 2.

The first week of NFL action brought plenty of excitement and unexpected outcomes, as road teams, low-scoring games, and surprising upsets took center stage.

Away teams covered the spread in 12 out of 16 games, and the Under came out on top in 12 games as well. Furthermore, there were eight surprising upsets as three of the AFC’s top teams (Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals) all faced losses. This exciting start to the season has left fans and bettors eagerly awaiting Week 2.

Here are our top NFL bets to go along with our NFL picks, upset picks, and player props for Week 2 in the NFL. Our confidence in these picks is rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with odds provided by our recommended NFL betting sites.

Week 2 NFL predictions

Brandon Aiyuk is predicted to have more than 57.5 receiving yards against the Rams, with a -110 odds on bet365. This bet is rated four stars.

San Francisco’s wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk had an impressive start to the season opener, making eight receptions for a career-best 129 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Aiyuk has been the team’s top performer in targets (39), receptions (30), and yards (446) since Brock Purdy became the quarterback last season.

Aiyuk has outperformed his expected total in three out of the last five games against the Los Angeles Rams. In those matchups, he recorded receiving yards of 81, 37, 26, 69, and 107. It is worth noting that Aiyuk faced the talented cornerback Jalen Ramsey in many of those games, but Ramsey is no longer part of the team.

There is a possibility that the 49ers could start strong and rely on their running game led by Christian McCaffrey and his teammates. However, this is a confident four-star prediction because we anticipate head coach Kyle Shanahan being aware of Purdy’s impressive streak of six games with two or more passing touchdowns. He just needs one more to tie Billy Volek’s record from 2003-04 for the most consecutive starts with multiple passing touchdowns to start a career since 1950.

Every sportsbook agrees on the Over/Under of 57.5 yards, except for bet365 which does not favor the Over. Aiyuk’s odds to surpass the total are as high as -119 at Caesars.

Tua Tagovailoa to throw less than 1.5 passing touchdowns is a bet worth considering, with odds at +108 on BetRivers. This pick is rated 4 stars.

During Week 1, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards, marking the fourth-highest passing yardage in an NFL season opener. Additionally, he became only the second Dolphins quarterback to achieve 400 or more passing yards in multiple games.

Last week, Tagovailoa had an impressive performance against man coverage, completing 20 of 35 passes for 334 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also had a 98 QBR outside the pocket. According to ESPN Analytics/NFL Next Gen, the 334 yards he threw against man coverage were the fourth-most in a single game over the past five seasons. However, this upcoming game presents a challenging situation as he is facing a head coach who excels at neutralizing a team’s top offensive threat, making it a tough matchup following his standout performance.

In a standout performance, Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots defense limited the Philadelphia Eagles to just one offensive touchdown, matching the lowest total allowed in any Jalen Hurts start. The Eagles’ 251 total yards marked their lowest output since 2021, with the team enduring four consecutive three-and-outs in the first half. This impressive display earned the Patriots a four-star rating, as they pressured Hurts into a paltry 7.1 QBR in Week 1 (ranking 22nd among all quarterbacks), ultimately leading to the Eagles finishing the week ranked 20th in offensive efficiency.

Many sportsbooks have odds in favor of betting on the Under for this prop, but BetRivers stands out as the only one offering odds better than +105.

Travis Kelce is listed as the first touchdown scorer against the Jaguars with odds of +650 on FanDuel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Last week, the Kansas City Chiefs offense felt the absence of tight end Travis Kelce, but with him back at practice and ready to play on Sunday, we anticipate Patrick Mahomes will target him frequently from the start.

In Week 1, Mahomes completed 10 out of 22 passes for 135 yards, one touchdown, and one interception when throwing to wide receivers. He struggled to utilize Kelce’s skills in the middle of the field, connecting on 13 of 23 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown against zone coverage. Overall, Mahomes was inaccurate on 19% of his throws and his receivers dropped 10% of his attempts.

Since 2016, Kelce has the second most receptions (675), second most receiving yards (8,607), and fourth most receiving touchdowns (59) among all players. With these impressive stats, we are confident in choosing him to be the first player to score in what is expected to be a high-scoring game, despite his odds of -145 for scoring a touchdown at any time.

FanDuel is offering an exceptionally competitive price for this bet compared to other major sportsbooks, with most offering odds of +500 or lower, and Caesars having the lowest odds at +450.

Bet on the Falcons to win against the Packers at even odds with a four-star rating.

The beginning of the Jordan Love era for the Green Bay Packers began with a victory over the Chicago Bears, reminiscent of many games with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Love had an impressive performance, throwing for a career-high 245 yards and helping the Packers tie for their third-highest points total (40) in a season opener in franchise history. Despite Love’s success, the Green Bay defense may struggle against the Atlanta Falcons’ unconventional offensive strategy.

Atlanta will need quarterback Desmond Ridder to step up, as he struggled in Week 1 with low rankings in attempts, yards, and Total QBR among starting quarterbacks. Despite his shortcomings, Atlanta’s strong rushing attack has the potential to exploit the Packers’ weak rush defense. While Chicago couldn’t fully utilize their running game last week, Atlanta is expected to stay competitive in this matchup of undefeated teams, relying on their rushing advantage to keep them in the game.

Caesars is the sole shop providing favorable plus-money odds for betting on the Falcons, while all other shops have odds of -105 or higher.
