The Philadelphia Eagles finished the 2026-24 NFL regular season with an 11-6 record, but their top playmakers suffered major injuries in the final game. This will make it difficult for them to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-8) in Monday’s Wild Card Weekend final.

One of the injured players is quarterback Jalen Hurts, who hurt his middle finger on his throwing hand last week but is expected to play. Unfortunately, top receiver A.J. Brown will not be able to play due to a knee injury from Week 18. In addition, wide receiver DeVonta Smith is struggling with an ankle injury that had previously kept him out of games earlier in the season.

Tampa Bay has secured five victories in its last six games, clinching the NFC South title for the third consecutive season, a first in the team’s history. Jalen Hurts is expected to throw fewer than 1.5 passing touchdowns with odds of -170 according to bet365, earning a four-star rating.

Following Thursday’s practice, Hurts informed reporters that he had not thrown a football since the team’s loss to the New York Giants last week. With the added setback of his injured middle finger and the absence of Brown, who ranked fifth in the NFL for receiving yards, the Philadelphia offense is likely to heavily rely on the running game.

Despite having a strong team around him, Hurts has only thrown for multiple touchdowns in one of the last six games. Additionally, since Week 11, Hurts ranks 25th or lower in completion percentage over expected, yards per attempt, and passer rating.

Despite the Buccaneers allowing the eighth-most passing yards per game, the Eagles are likely to focus on running the ball more to protect their injured quarterback. While this strategy may come with a high cost, it still offers better value compared to the -190 odds offered by BetRivers for the same bet.

Jalen Hurts is predicted to throw at least one interception with odds of -115 at BetMGM, earning a four-star rating.

Hurts performs the poorest among starting quarterbacks in the NFL when faced with blitzing defenses, showing a decline in performance under pressure. His passer rating has dropped by almost 10 points against the blitz this year (80.5) compared to last year (90.2).

Over the past eight games, Hurts has struggled with a 66.3 passer rating when facing the blitz. During this stretch, he has completed only 59.3% of his passes, averaged 6.0 yards per attempt, and has a 1-3 touchdown to interception ratio. In the recent loss to the Giants, Hurts had his worst performance of the season against the blitz with a QBR of 5. He completed just five of 11 passes for 41 yards and threw an interception.

The Buccaneers are anticipated to pressure Hurts into throwing at least one interception, given their high blitz rate of 40.1% on opponent dropbacks, which is the third-highest in the league. In their previous matchup in Week 3, Bowles blitzed on 30 out of Hurts’s 40 dropbacks (75%) and forced two interceptions.

Nevertheless, the Philadelphia offense will be weakened by the absence of its top passing weapon, leading to fewer red-zone opportunities and less chances for Hurts to score up close. Instead, we see more potential in his rushing yard prop. We anticipate the Eagles will follow a similar game plan that led to their victory over the Buccaneers in Week 3. Philadelphia ran for 201 yards with over 5.0 yards per carry in that game, and Hurts added 28 yards rushing, showcasing his ability to run when given the opportunity.

Due to the anticipated blitzing from Tampa Bay, Hurts may be required to scramble more often, potentially leading to a breakout performance on the ground. Hurts has achieved over 35 rushing yards in seven out of 17 games this season, including two games with 34 yards. However, with Brown sidelined, the Eagles’ strategy is likely to shift, setting the stage for a different dynamic in this upcoming game.
