The Edmonton Oilers are looking to close out the Western Conference Final as they take on the Dallas Stars in Game 6 on Sunday. Our expert predictions and picks, based on the top NHL odds, will ensure you are well informed for this matchup.

The Edmonton Oilers are on the cusp of reaching their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006, but they still have a lot of work ahead of them. The Dallas Stars, who have been dominant on the road with a 6-2 record in the playoffs, are aiming to disrupt Edmonton’s plans after losing at home in Game 5.

The Stars secured a victory in their first potential elimination game against the Vegas Golden Knights in the opening round. They aim to prolong the series this Sunday at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The game is set to start at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on TNT.

The Oilers are expected to win Game 6 and are also in a favorable position in the Stanley Cup odds. Edmonton has a 5-3 record at home, while Dallas has a 6-2 record on the road during the 2024 playoffs.

Predictions for Sunday’s game between the Stars and Oilers

Under 5.5 goals ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Going against my usual instincts, I am choosing to bet the Under in the Edmonton game. This decision is based on the unique circumstances and significance of the event.

If the Stars want to have a chance at forcing a seventh and deciding game, they cannot afford to engage in a shootout with the Oilers. Their success on the road in the playoffs, with a record of 6-2, can be attributed to their strong defensive play and ability to shut down opponents.

Both games in Edmonton went over the total, but three out of five games overall had five or fewer goals scored.

Prior to facing Edmonton, the Stars had played five of their six games in opposing arenas with five or fewer goals scored, including three consecutive games in Colorado and four games in a row overall.

I am aware that empty-net goals could impact this bet, but with a chance to secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Final, I am willing to take that chance. The odds of -115 indicate a 53.49% probability, and a successful $10 bet would result in a profit of $8.70.

Connor McDavid is expected to take more than 3.5 shots in the game, earning a four-star rating.

Connor McDavid is currently in a hot shooting streak, transitioning from his usual pass-first mentality to a shoot-on-sight approach, and it is proving to be successful.

McDavid, typically confident in relying on teammates, has recently taken control himself, a positive sign for the Oilers. He has recorded at least four shots in three consecutive games, including four out of five in the Western Conference Final. The only game where he had fewer shots was Game 2, which resulted in a loss for the Oilers.

This prop still has some risks, as McDavid has not attempted at least four shots on goal in four consecutive games since the playoffs began.

Nevertheless, McDavid displays higher productivity when playing at home, having fired 29 shots on goal compared to 24 on the road, equating to an average of 3.6 shots per game. Since opting to pass less and shoot more, McDavid has been averaging 4.2 shots per game at Rogers Place.

An implied probability of 51.22% is represented by -105 odds, and a successful $10 bet would result in a profit of $9.52.

Top odds: -105 offered by Betway

First period: Less than 1.5 goals expected ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just as McDavid had his realization to shoot more, I have embraced an aggressive mentality for Game 6.

I predict that Game 6 in Edmonton will mirror Game 5 in Dallas, particularly in the first 20 minutes. The Stars will come out strong defensively, fueled by their desperation to win. Jake Oettinger, in particular, will be motivated to showcase his skills after his impressive performance in previous games. His stellar goaltending has been crucial in keeping the Stars competitive, and I anticipate another outstanding performance from him on Sunday.

On the other hand, the Oilers need to avoid another slow start like they had in Game 4 at home, where they gave up two early goals. While they were able to mount a remarkable comeback and secure the victory, pulling off a similar feat in Game 6 would be a more difficult challenge.

Betway’s odds of -120 suggest a 54.55% chance of winning. If a $10 bet is successful, the profit will be $8.33.

Betway offers the best odds at -120.
