Following an unexpected upset of top-seeded Purdue in the semifinals, the Illinois Fighting Illini emerged victorious in the Big Ten Tournament, defying the second shortest odds in the tournament according to college basketball betting lines.

The Purdue Boilermakers, as the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament, were heavily favored to win the title for the second consecutive year. Led by Wooden Award frontrunner Zach Edey, Purdue had odds as short as -110 to emerge victorious in the conference tournament.

Nevertheless, the Boilermakers, who were favored at even money or shorter on all of our top March Madness betting sites, suffered an upset by the Wisconsin Badgers in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. This unexpected outcome paved the way for the Illinois Fighting Illini to emerge victorious against the Badgers in the championship game, securing a 93-87 win.

Illinois’s fourth conference tournament title since 2003 improved their March Madness odds and increased their popularity among college basketball picks heading into the NCAA Tournament.
