We are choosing to bet on underdogs Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy for the PGA Championship, with the hopes of winning big with the higher odds available on other players at our top golf betting sites.

Scottie Scheffler stands alone in a tier of his own as the clear favorite according to the 2024 PGA Championship odds. Rory McIlroy trails behind in second place, but is significantly ahead of the competition following his recent victory in the Wells Fargo Championship.

Therefore, bettors have the opportunity to capitalize on some favorable odds for most competitors in the 156-man field. With Scheffler’s strong performance, Rory’s widespread popularity and recent win, and the looming presence of Brooks Koepka in another major, a victory by any other player would result in a substantial profit from our top sports betting platforms.

In my PGA Championship expert picks, we have previously focused on more conservative odds. However, in this list of PGA Championship long-shot picks, we are targeting golfers with odds of 100-1 or higher. Consult our PGA Championship power rankings to distinguish the top contenders.

Talor Gooch

It’s time for Gooch to step up and perform, or leave and be quiet.

Despite his lackluster performance in majors, Gooch has surprisingly been the most outspoken critic of the restrictions placed on LIV Series golfers. It is peculiar considering his best finish in a major is T-14 out of 11 appearances. After missing the cut in two of last year’s majors, he was not invited to the 2024 Masters.

Despite missing the cut in previous years, he has been granted an opportunity to compete in the PGA Championship.

Ignoring any previous criticisms, Gooch achieved victory three times on the LIV circuit in 2023 and finished tied for second in Las Vegas in 2024. He is currently ranked as the 33rd best golfer in the world by Data Golf, regardless of the tour they compete in.

Corey Conners

Conners achieved a career-high T-12 finish at the PGA Championship, bouncing back from a missed cut in 2022 and a T-17 in 2021. This marked his best performance in a major tournament outside of three consecutive top 10 finishes at the Masters from 2020 to 2022.

After finishing tied for 13th in the Wells Fargo Championship last week, he climbed to No. 49 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and is now the second-highest ranked Canadian. His streak of making 19 consecutive cuts (including no-cut events) dates back to June 2023.

Ranked sixth among qualified golfers in the PGA Championship field, the Canadian has a strokes gained: approach per round of 0.98 over his last 16 rounds. He has displayed better putting skills and is above average in driving distance compared to others in the field. Additionally, Conners is ranked 15th on the PGA Tour this season in birdie-or-better percentage from distances of 200-plus yards at Valhalla.

Keegan Bradley

This number on the board stands out as the most shocking. Although Bradley failed to make the cut in the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla, that was a decade ago.

The 37-year-old Vermont native is currently ranked No. 20 in the OWGR, having secured victories in each of the past two years. Since winning the 2011 PGA Championship, he has only missed the cut twice in this event and achieved a T-29 result in 2023. He placed tied for 22nd in the Masters and finished T-21 at Quail Hollow last week, while maintaining an average of 1.23 SG: approach per round.

Bradley’s strongest asset in 2024 has been his irons, as he currently ranks 38th in birdie-or-better percentage from distances of 200 yards or more.

Placing a $10 bet on these odds could result in a $2,500 profit if he wins. It’s definitely worth considering and could provide an attractive cash-out opportunity if he is near the top of the leaderboard over the weekend.

The odds were calculated before the start of Round 1 of the tournament.

  • Phil Mickelson – 2021 (+25000 | 250-1)
  • Jimmy Walker – 2016 (+12500 | 125-1)
  • Keegan Bradley – 2011 (+15000 | 150-1)
  • YE Yang – 2009 (+12500 | 125-1)

The PGA Championship has a history of producing unexpected and remarkable underdog champions. Phil Mickelson’s win at Kiawah Island three years ago was particularly noteworthy, as his odds of 250-1 gave him just a 0.40% chance of winning the Wanamaker Trophy at the age of 50.
