As the second major of the 2024 PGA Tour season gets ready to start on Thursday, we have our top picks for PGA Championship props. Scottie Scheffler is the clear favorite in the outright betting according to the odds from our top golf betting sites.

Rory McIlroy’s impressive wins at the Zurich Classic and Wells Fargo Championship have sparked anticipation for the upcoming PGA Championship. With his outstanding play, he is now considered a top contender for the tournament at Valhalla Golf Club.

After taking a break to focus on his newborn son, Scottie Scheffler is back in the spotlight. Despite missing out on the chance to compete in the last major at Valhalla in 2014, where McIlroy came out on top, Scheffler is eager to make a statement this year.

In the meantime, three-time PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, who secured his latest title at Oak Hill CC in 2023, shows great self-assurance. Despite his T-15 finish at Valhalla in 2014, Koepka continues to be a strong contender at the venue. Currently listed at +1400 odds, just behind Scheffler and McIlroy, Koepka is definitely a player worth keeping an eye on.

These are our PGA Championship prop selections for Valhalla Golf Club, evaluated using odds from our top sports betting sites and rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars for confidence.

Rory McIlroy to finish top 10 ⭐⭐⭐

McIlroy is back at the location of his 2014 major victory. He is currently enjoying a surge in momentum, coming off a recent win with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. McIlroy rallied over the weekend to secure a five-stroke victory over Xander Schauffele, finishing at 17-under-par and claiming his fourth win at Quail Hollow Club.

McIlroy’s elite off-the-tee skills make Valhalla the perfect course for him, so he is likely to finish in the top ten on the leaderboard by the end of Sunday.

This play is rated three stars due to the return of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler this week. Rory McIlroy had a slow start to the season with only one top-ten finish before his recent success. Despite a T-22 finish at The Masters, McIlroy’s confidence is high as he heads back to the site of his second PGA Championship win after back-to-back victories. Betting on McIlroy to secure a top-ten finish is a good value proposition.

Scottie Scheffler to finish top 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Scheffler’s top-five finishing position odds this week are a no-brainer. After taking a brief break to be there for the birth of his first child, Scheffler is back and ready to compete at Valhalla.

Scheffler made his debut in PGA Tour events in 2014, but did not play enough to qualify at Valhalla. As a result, this will be his first time teeing off at this Jack Nicklaus-designed course. Scheffler has performed admirably on almost every course this season, including those designed by Nicklaus.

Scheffler leads in strokes gained off-the-tee and strokes gained approach, while also ranking fifth in SG: around-the-green. Despite his struggles with putting at 97th in SG: putting, he has shown significant improvement recently, winning four of his last five events.

Scheffler is listed at +105 odds to finish in the top five at Valhalla. He finished as the runner-up to Brooks Koepka at Oak Hills Country Club in the 2023 PGA Championship and also achieved a T-4 finish at TPC Harding Park during the 2020 PGA Championship. The Texas native has a strong track record in major tournaments.

Need more proof? By 2024, Scheffler has placed in the top five in seven out of 10 events he has played, with five consecutive top-five finishes and four wins, including the first major of the year.

FanDuel offers the best odds at +105.

Stephan Jaeger to finish top 40 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We have chosen German golfer Stephan Jaeger as our final prop play to finish in the top 40 this week. Jaeger has been the only golfer to defeat Scheffler in the last five events, winning thanks to a missed five-foot birdie that prevented a playoff at the Houston Open.

Jaeger made his debut at the PGA Championship in 2023 at Oak Hills CC, finishing T-50 after struggling in the final round with a 76. Hopefully, he’ll have better luck at Valhalla, a course known for being a little more forgiving.

Despite needing to improve his irons and putter, Jaeger is able to maintain a top 40 ranking by excelling in strokes gained off-the-tee and around the green, where he is ranked 17th and 14th respectively. In his last five events, the German golfer won his first PGA Tour event, missed the cut at The Masters, and finished T-18, T-20, and T-21 in the following tournaments. Although he missed the cut at the season’s first major, Jaeger’s final three-event stretch included two Signature Events.

Considering his proficiency with driving and short game, it appears achievable, therefore let’s place a one-unit bet on him finishing in the top 40.

How to bet on golf

To successfully bet on golf, one must comprehend the range of betting options and effectively evaluate player performance. Begin by learning about the common types of golf bets, such as outright winner bets, each-way bets (which combine a win and high placement), head-to-head matchups, and proposition bets on specific tournament events like hole-in-one chances or player performances on particular holes.

After determining the types of bets you are interested in, conduct thorough research on the players, course conditions, recent form, and other relevant factors that may impact the outcomes. Consider player statistics, recent tournament results, course history, and any injuries or changes in form that could potentially affect a player’s performance.
