Both the Buffalo Sabres and the Colorado Avalanche are not in top form as they head into Wednesday’s featured clash. Buffalo has a record of 2-2 since Tage Thompson returned to the lineup (3-5-1 without him), while Colorado has a record of 2-3-2 since Nov. 30.

Nevertheless, both teams are coming off wins and are focused on extending their winning streak to two games in primetime.

Despite playing alongside talented linemates Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and defenseman Cale Makar, Valeri Nichushkin has managed to stand out recently. Despite the Avalanche’s struggles, his strong play hasn’t been reflected in the stat sheet…yet.

After being held scoreless for three games, Nichushkin finally broke through in December with two assists in a 6-5 victory against the Flames on Monday. Despite not scoring in his last five games, he has taken 16 shots during that stretch. In mid-November, Nichushkin had a six-game streak of scoring goals.

MacKinnon and Rantanen are both listed at even odds to score a goal on Wednesday, which can be difficult to accept. Nichushkin has slightly better odds at +130 on most sports betting apps, but the +160 odds at FanDuel are the most enticing.

Rasmus Dahlin Over 2.5 shots on goal (+100 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Last week in Buffalo, alarm bells sounded when Rasmus Dahlin was unable to play in Thursday’s game against the Boston Bruins due to a lower-body injury. Reports indicated that he had been struggling with the injury for several games. However, Dahlin only missed one game and quickly resumed his dominant play by consistently testing opposing goalies with shots.

Dahlin has recorded at least three shots on goal in six consecutive games, averaging 4.3 shots per game during this stretch. This has increased his season average to over 2.6 shots on goal per game. In the previous meeting between these teams on Oct. 29, Dahlin had three shots on goal, with one resulting in a goal.

JJ Peterka anytime goal (+260 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

JJ Peterka scored his 12th goal of the season on Monday against the Arizona Coyotes, matching his scoring output from the previous season. In his sophomore campaign, he has been consistently shooting pucks at the net with determination, providing good value for his team by finding the back of the net once again.

Instead of betting on Peterka to have over 2.5 shots on goal at even odds, I will instead bet on him to score as a three-star play. Peterka has recorded at least three shots on goal in 14 games this season, scoring in eight of them. When the threshold is raised to four shots on goal, Peterka has converted 7 out of 10 times, with a current streak of scoring in 4 out of 5 games with four shots on goal.

FanDuel continues to lead the pack with the best goal prop odds, offering Peterka at +260 compared to others who have him at +200 to +230.
