This season, the AFC appears to be the stronger conference, making it potentially more unpredictable, especially during the playoffs. Despite this, we have chosen two NFC teams as our top three picks to win the Super Bowl, despite the possibility of them being considered underdogs against the AFC team in the championship game.

Which other teams offer good value if we remove the Los Angeles Rams from consideration, considering that no team has won back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots did so in 2003 and 2004?

Chiefs (+1100)

If Patrick Mahomes can lead the Kansas City Chiefs to the AFC Championship, he will match Ken Stabler for the second-longest streak of consecutive seasons (five) making it to the conference championship round. The Chiefs struggled with their run defense last season, ranking last in run-stop win rate (27%), second to last in yards per rush allowed (4.8), and 30th in first-down percentage (29%), according to Next Gen Stats.

To address the problem, Kansas City brought in experienced players Justin Reid and Carlos Dunlap, as well as drafting Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis. Concerns about the offense’s performance without Tyreek Hill should be eased by the impressive preseason results with Mahomes leading the team.

If Kansas City had not blown an early 21-3 lead against Cincinnati, they would have been competing for another Super Bowl title. Despite losing Hill, the Chiefs are still flying somewhat under the radar. With Andy Reid coaching Patrick Mahomes, they are sure to win plenty of games.

Packers (+1200)

Similar to the Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers also experienced the loss of a prominent wide receiver and are not currently seen as the top contenders in their conference, despite their impressive 13-4 record from last season. Davante Adams was heavily targeted with 170 passes last year, far surpassing any other player on the team who had no more than 65 targets. Nonetheless, the Packers still boast a seasoned group of receivers in Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb, and Allen Lazard. Following Rodgers’ critique of the younger wide receivers before the preseason finale, they stepped up with a combined 15 catches for 168 yards.

Rodgers, who has won the last two MVP awards, secured his latest victory after a season with 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns. There is no need to be concerned about the state of Green Bay’s offense, as Rodgers has a proven track record of developing receivers.

Don’t underestimate the Packers, as their strong defense and upgraded running game led by Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon will provide support for Rodgers and the receivers during frigid January games.

Saints (+4000)

The New Orleans Saints are a strong underdog choice, hailing from the less competitive conference but with a high likelihood of clinching their division title.

Quarterback Jameis Winston showed promise in his only preseason appearance, completing all four of his passes for 59 yards and leading the team to a touchdown drive. If he can stay healthy, fans of the New Orleans Saints have reason to be optimistic based on his strong performance before his injury last season. In the first eight weeks of the previous season, Winston led all quarterbacks in touchdown percentage (8.7%), ranked seventh in TD-INT ratio (14-3), and was seventh in total QBR (64). With the return of a healthy Michael Thomas, the addition of draft pick Chris Olave, and free agent acquisition Jarvis Landry, Winston has plenty of weapons to work with this season.

Many believe that New Orleans has one of the top five rosters in the league, which makes their +4000 odds to win the Super Bowl very tempting.
