The Los Angeles Sparks (4-13) have had a challenging month, losing rookie Cameron Brink to an ACL injury during a six-game losing streak. They will look to turn things around on Friday when they take on the Phoenix Mercury (8-8) at Footprint Center. The game is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. ET on ION.

I find it difficult to understand the Mercury. They have a 50% win rate this season and have defeated top teams in the WNBA, but have not won consecutive games since mid-May.

However, they have managed to endure a challenging schedule recently, facing off against one of the top five teams in the league in six of their last eight games in June. The only exceptions were the Dallas Wings and the Sparks themselves.

In their last matchup on June 2, Phoenix dominated Los Angeles by a 21-point margin. This victory came before the Sparks suffered the season-ending loss of Brink. Since then, Los Angeles has been on a six-game losing streak, with all but one of those defeats being by a minimum of nine points.

The Sparks have managed to stage comebacks in the fourth quarter of some games to salvage the final score, but they have consistently been outplayed in every game they play. If the Mercury can capitalize on their three-point shots against one of the weakest defenses in the league, they should secure an easy victory.
