Our top Jets vs. Browns prediction for Week 17’s Thursday Night Football game is based on the best NFL odds as a surging Cleveland team hosts New York.

The New York Jets have experienced a series of disappointments in 2023, starting the season with optimism and a new quarterback but failing to secure consecutive wins since October.

With Aaron Rodgers officially out for the season and Zach Wilson sidelined with a concussion, Trevor Siemian takes over as quarterback for the Jets.

After almost squandering a 20-point lead in their Week 16 victory, New York now faces a tough challenge in Cleveland against a strong defense and a hot quarterback.

The Browns currently hold a one-game lead for the top wild-card spot in the AFC and there is still a possibility for them to overtake the Baltimore Rivans for the AFC North title.

The Cleveland Browns have won 8 out of their last 11 games, going 3-1 since veteran Joe Flacco took over as starting quarterback. A victory on Thursday would secure the Browns a spot in the playoffs.

Here are our top player props for the Jets vs. Browns game, along with our prediction for Thursday Night Football (odds from the top NFL betting sites; confidence rating on a 1-5 star scale).

Jets vs. Browns prediction: Thursday Night Football

Under 36.5 (-110 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kevin Stefanski, head coach of the Browns, is considered one of the favorites for NFL Coach of the Year due to his leadership in guiding the team to 10 wins with four different starting quarterbacks. Despite Joe Flacco’s impressive average of 326.8 passing yards per game in his four starts, he has struggled with turnovers, throwing at least one interception in each game (seven total).

Flacco will be up against his former team, the Jets, who have the second-best pass defense in the league, allowing only 168.6 yards per game. This could pose a problem for the Browns, as injuries to their offensive line have hurt their running game. Cleveland has only averaged 55 rushing yards per game in their last three games, with less than three yards per carry in each game.

The New York team has reached the 30-point mark in two games this season, both occurring in the past three weeks. However, the most recent instance was against the Commanders, who have been struggling with a losing streak and allowing an average of 34.7 points per game. It is unlikely that the Jets will be able to replicate this feat when they face the Browns, whose defense has held 11 opponents to under 300 total yards, the most since 1957.

In Week 15, Myles Garrett had the most pass rush wins of any player at home, and his 21 pass rush wins in Weeks 14-15 were the most he has had in a two-week period in his career.

The Browns currently hold the top spot in pass defense, with the Jets following closely behind in second place. This achievement is largely attributed to the exceptional performance of their three cornerbacks, Martin Emerson Jr., Denzel Ward, and Greg Newsome II, who all rank in the top 12 of the league in passer rating allowed when targeted.

This game is considered a four-star play due to Cleveland’s historic defense, only allowing 195 first downs through 14 games, the lowest since the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Additionally, with rain projected in the forecast, we anticipate this game to be even more unattractive than usual.
