SEC Championship Odds 2024: Georgia, Texas Favorites Ahead of SEC Media Day
The SEC Championship odds have shifted this year with the inclusion of Texas and Oklahoma on our top college football betting sites.
Although the Sooners are not projected to contend for the conference title, Texas is closely trailing Georgia, the favorite for the college football championship odds.
With SEC Media Days kicking off, the upcoming season is just around the corner and Georgia and Texas appear ready to capitalize on Nick Saban’s retirement. Both teams boast Heisman hopeful quarterbacks and are strong favorites to make a run at the College Football Playoff.
Despite Saban leaving, Alabama remains a team with a wealth of talent, and new head coach Kalen DeBoer has recent experience in championship games with Washington. Is it possible for the Crimson Tide or Ole Miss to surpass Georgia and Texas in the odds?

2024 SEC Championship favorites
Georgia (+200)
With Saban’s departure, his protege can now be recognized as the top college football coach in the nation. Since assuming leadership of the Bulldogs in 2016, Smart has compiled an impressive 56-9 record in SEC competition, securing two SEC Championship titles in 2017 and 2022.
Georgia has acquired top-tier talent and appears primed to not only secure the SEC Championship, but also contend for its third College Football Playoff National Championship in the last four seasons.
Georgia’s offensive line is stacked with talent and is spearheaded by quarterback Carson Beck, who is a top prospect for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, along with Florida transfer Trevor Etienne. On the defensive side, coach Smart has built a strong unit with several All-American candidates, such as Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks.
With the Bulldogs’ recent success and the abundance of All-SEC players on the team, it seems unlikely that Georgia will not win the conference. If they do, a $10 bet would result in a $20 profit.
Greatest chances: +200 on DraftKings | Probability of 33.33%
Texas (+350)
It seems that Texas is making a comeback. Under the guidance of head coach Steve Sarkisian, the team made its first College Football Playoff appearance last season. The Longhorns are ranked 25th in the nation in returning production, the highest among teams that placed in the top 10 of the final AP poll.
QB Quinn Ewers is generating a lot of excitement due to his impressive arm strength, with some experts even predicting he could be a top pick in the NFL draft. However, despite Texas having a strong returning roster, they suffered significant losses with their top three receivers, top two defensive linemen, and top running back all being selected in the first 101 picks of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Adding Georgia to Texas’ conference schedule only exacerbates the situation. The transfers that Sarkisian has brought in may not be enough to compensate for the loss of key players. It is uncertain if Ewers can be compared to Beck at this point.
I believe the current price is insufficient to support betting on the Longhorns. They have lost many key players and are entering the most challenging conference in college football, with the strongest team on paper. Placing a $10 bet at this price would yield a $35 profit.
Top odds: +350 on FanDuel | Probability of winning: 22.22%
Ole Miss (+750)
Has any coach fully embraced the NIL era like Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss? While he may not excel in high school recruiting, he has more than compensated by dominating the transfer portal. Ole Miss leads the nation in portal recruits, with 24 new additions including numerous potential NFL prospects.
At the forefront of the portal class are Walter Nolen (Texas A&M), Princely Umanmielen (Florida), and Antwane “Juice” Wells (South Carolina). Wells seems poised to be a significant asset as a receiver alongside Tre Harris, while Nolen and Umanmielen add an intimidating edge to the team.
Kiffin’s ability to maximize his offense is evident, particularly with Jaxson Dart returning at quarterback. The addition of potential first-round picks Nolen and Umanmielen to the D-line, alongside Jared Ivey and JJ Pegues, is truly game-changing.
In the end, I believe the Rebels will secure a spot in the 12-team playoff, but I am worried about the performance of the offensive line and secondary. This uncertainty makes me hesitant to fully support these odds, even though they could potentially result in a $75 profit on a $10 bet.
FanDuel offers the best odds at +750, with an implied probability of 11.76%.
My SEC Championship team to watch
Alabama (+800)
The future of Alabama without Saban is uncertain, but the program, which won the SEC Championship last year, has hired a new head coach, Kalen DeBoer, who has a successful track record. DeBoer managed to turn Washington around in just two seasons and now inherits a talented roster in Tuscaloosa, led by a star quarterback.
DeBoer’s offensive prowess was evident as he guided QB Michael Penix Jr. to an eighth overall selection in the NFL draft. With Jalen Milroe leading the offense, a dominant offensive line, and a talented defense, the Crimson Tide remain contenders in the post-Saban era.
I am particularly hopeful about the offensive line, as guards Jaeden Roberts and Tyler Booker are among the best in the country, left tackle Kadyn Proctor has decided to transfer back to Alabama from Iowa, and center Parker Brailsford has joined DeBoer from the Huskies.
If Milroe improves as a passer with DeBoer’s guidance, he could become a serious Heisman contender due to his running skills. Despite my doubts about any SEC team beating Georgia, Alabama has the potential to do so. If they win the conference, a $10 bet could result in an $80 profit.

How to bet on the SEC Championship
Before placing a bet on SEC Championship odds, make sure to select a trustworthy sportsbook that provides college football futures. Compare the odds for various teams, such as Alabama at +300 and Ole Miss at +600. For instance, a $100 wager on Alabama could potentially earn you $300 if they become champions.
Choose your wager amount and place your bet. For example, if you bet $100 on Alabama with odds of +300 and they win, you will receive $400 in total ($300 in profit plus your initial $100 stake). Monitor the team’s performance throughout the season to track the progress of your bet.
When participating in future markets betting, keep in mind that the odds are subject to change. Performance and perception play a big role in these changes. A team’s odds can shift if they exceed or fall short of expectations. Key player injuries can have a major impact on a team’s likelihood of success and subsequent odds. Additionally, transfers and new player additions can also influence a team’s chances of winning a championship.
Public betting trends also influence sportsbooks, as they may adjust the odds to mitigate risk if a large number of people are betting on a particular team.
Expert analysis and predictions have the power to sway people’s betting decisions, ultimately impacting the odds. By grasping these influences, you can place more knowledgeable bets and potentially capitalize on any advantageous odds changes.
How to read SEC Championship odds
Understanding SEC Championship odds is simple. The odds are typically displayed in a format such as +300 or -150. Positive odds, like +300, indicate the potential profit on a $100 wager.
To illustrate, if you place a $100 bet at odds of +300, you would win $300 in addition to your initial $100 wager, resulting in a total payout of $400. Conversely, negative odds (e.g. -150) signify the amount you must bet to win $100. Therefore, a $150 bet at -150 odds would yield $100 in winnings, along with your $150 bet, for a total payout of $250.
The odds provided also indicate the likelihood of a team winning the championship. Lower odds, such as +200, suggest a greater chance of winning, whereas higher odds, like +1000, indicate a lower likelihood. Underscores factor in variables such as team performance, injuries, transfers, and betting trends to adjust these odds accordingly.
For instance, if Georgia has +300 odds and LSU has +600 odds, Alabama is considered the favorite to win. Betting $100 on Alabama would result in a $400 payout ($300 profit plus the original $100 bet). Knowing how to interpret these odds is key to making smart betting choices and evaluating potential earnings.
