2024 Men’s Olympic Basketball Odds & Favorites: USA Still Favorite; Greece a Long Shot After OQT
After the Olympic qualifying tournaments, Team USA is still considered the top contender in men’s Olympic basketball according to the latest odds from our top sports betting sites. They have assembled perhaps their most talented roster ever.
Our top sportsbooks are giving the U.S. team high odds of -625 to win the upcoming tournament, which starts on Saturday, July 27 and ends with the gold medal game on Saturday, Aug. 10. This is quite the compliment for a program known for producing the famous “Dream Team” in 1992.
According to our odds converter, there is an 86.21% chance that the Americans will win their fifth consecutive gold medal and 17th overall. This seems fitting considering the high level of talent on the team, which includes former NBA MVPs LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid, known as “The Avengers.”
Remember to consider the top international players such as MVP winners Nikola Jokic from Serbia and Giannis Antetokounmpo from Greece, as well as up-and-coming stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from Canada and Victor Wembanyama from France, among others.

2024 Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament favorites
USA (-390)
If you have seen any of the impressive moments showcased by USA Basketball, it serves as a clear reminder of the abundance of talent on the court for the American team.
After losing to Canada in the bronze medal match of the FIBA World Cup, Team USA’s top stars were fired up. This led to the creation of the most star-studded roster since 2008, if not in history.
The group known as “The Avengers” is set to have one final ride with James, Curry, and Durant, a talented trio who have never before played together for Team USA. Embiid will also join this group, despite being eligible to play for France or Cameroon.
Anthony Edwards emerged as a major star last summer, leading the Americans in points and minutes played during a fourth-place FIBA finish. His performance during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ playoff run has positioned him as a potential face of the NBA and a key player for a team filled with superstars.
Despite the absence of many star players, the United States has managed to win gold in seven out of the last eight Olympic Games since 1992, when NBA players were first allowed to participate. The dominant performance of the “Dream Team” that year marked the beginning of a three-decade winning streak that will be challenging to break this summer.
Greatest likelihood: -390 according to DraftKings | Probability of success: 79.59%
Canada (+1100)
This is the lowest price we’ve seen on the Canadians since the odds were first released months ago, and if any team has a shot at challenging the Americans, it’s definitely this one.
Canada made a significant impact on the global basketball scene at the FIBA World Cup by defeating Team USA and capturing the bronze medal. This achievement marked their first medal since 2015 and has left them eager for more success in Paris, where they will be showcasing a roster filled with top-tier NBA players.
The main attraction is Gilgeous-Alexander, who made a name for himself last summer before earning a unanimous spot on the All-NBA first team in the 2023-24 season. He will be accompanied by NBA veterans Jamal Murray, RJ Barrett, Andrew Wiggins, Dillon Brooks, Luguentz Dort, Kelly Olynyk, and Dwight Powell, among others.
It’s remarkable to see such a high level of talent on a team that hasn’t competed at the Olympic level since Steve Nash led his country in Sydney 2000. If SGA continues to perform like one of the top three players in the world, as he has been for the past seven months, Canada could surprise everyone and win it all.
Top odds: +1100 on bet365 | Probability: 8.33%
France (+1500)
France was my team to keep an eye on this weekend. The oddsmakers must have been watching too, as the tournament hosts are now the third favorite at several locations to potentially cause an upset in Paris.
It’s not shocking to see the incredible talent of this group, particularly in the frontcourt. Rudy Gobert is widely considered one of the best defensive players globally, especially with international rules in play. Meanwhile, the rising star Wembanyama already showed promise as a top-20 player in his NBA rookie season and has the potential to shine in his home country with a standout performance.
The French team’s strong presence in the paint makes it difficult for opponents to score inside. They have previously defeated Team USA in international competitions and could be a surprise contender this summer, especially with the added advantage of being the Olympic hosts.
Top odds: +1500 on bet365 | Implied chance: 6.25%
Serbia (+1800)
Although Serbia is no longer in the top three, it is important to acknowledge the team’s standout player, Jokic, who is considered the best player in the world and is currently the favorite to win his fourth NBA MVP trophy in five seasons. This fact should give anyone betting against the Americans pause for thought.
Despite the absence of Jokic, the Serbian team made it to the gold medal game of the previous FIBA World Cup, where they narrowly lost to Germany. With the addition of the top player in the tournament, alongside NBA player Bogdan Bogdanovic and former EuroLeague MVP Vasilije Micic, their team is looking even stronger.
The previous Olympics saw Jokic compete for his country, resulting in Serbia earning a silver medal after a loss to Team USA in the final. Coincidentally, Serbia’s first-round opponent on July 28 is Team USA, providing an early indicator of the strengths of both teams in the competition.
Top odds: +1800 at bet365 | Implied chance: 5.26%
My Olympics men’s basketball team to watch
Greece (+2500)
Who could this possibly be? All attention is focused on Antetokounmpo and his team, as the “Greek Freak” guided them to a 80-69 victory against Croatia, securing their first Olympic Games appearance since 2008.
Antetokounmpo may not have a strong supporting cast of NBA-level talent, but his impressive performance of scoring 23 points in the qualifying final could still make a significant impact in a group that does not include the USA, France, and Serbia.
We will witness Canada’s ability to defend the two-time MVP, as well as Greece’s efforts to contain the talented Canadian roster. Although this team is considered a long shot, it would not be surprising if Antetokounmpo continues to lead his country on a magical run.
Top odds: +2500 at bet365 | Implied chance: 3.85%

This market is challenging to enter with seven players priced at +700 or lower.
I was initially very interested in Anthony Edwards when he started at +700 odds, but now at +550 odds, he is slightly less appealing. However, the Timberwolves standout demonstrated his scoring prowess by leading the Americans in the FIBA World Cup last summer, where he averaged 18.9 points on 47.5% shooting in just 26 minutes per game.
He scored a minimum of 13 points in 11 out of 13 games, including exhibition matches. In his last six games, he achieved 20 points or more in four of them, with a high of 35 points against Lithuania. This all happened before Edwards emerged as a potential future star of the NBA during the 2024 playoffs, averaging 27.6 points per game on 48.1% shooting in 16 games for Minnesota.
I’m hesitant to support anyone at such low odds, but if I had to place a bet, my money would be on Edwards.

Men’s Olympic basketball odds over time
On July 8, the lineup for the upcoming Olympic tournament has been finalized, leading to significant changes in the odds of winning the competition.
According to our top live betting sites, Team USA remains the clear favorite, with Canada as the second choice. However, France has now entered the top three, surpassing Serbia after an upset in qualifying resulted in an easier Group B for the tournament hosts.
Greece’s entrance into the competition as a serious contender with odds of less than 25/1 was a significant development. Despite never medaling in the past, the team, led by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, has the potential to achieve great things this summer.
