Kalen DeBoer was the frontrunner in the betting odds to become Alabama’s next head football coach on top college football betting sites, and he is now predicted to secure the highly sought-after position.

The top story in college football this week was Nick Saban’s unexpected retirement announcement, which came right after Michigan’s win over Washington in the 2024 College Football Championship.

Former Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer is rumored to be accepting the role of Alabama’s new head coach.

Favorite to be Alabama’s next head coach

During the 2023 college football season, DeBoer led the Washington Huskies to a 14-1 record and a Pac-12 Championship victory over Oregon. This success earned his team a spot in the 2024 national championship game, where they ultimately fell to Michigan by a score of 34-13.

That was the pinnacle of success for the 49-year-old coach. DeBoer had a 12-6 record at Fresno State before moving to Washington, where he achieved a 25-3 record in his first two seasons. His recent achievements may satisfy the desire for excitement in Alabama after Saban’s retirement.

DeBoer’s youth is also a factor, as he could be taking over for Saban, who is 72 years old and has been the head coach of the Crimson Tide since 2007. After almost two decades of stability, it’s unlikely that anyone in Alabama wants to go through this transition again soon.

DeBoer’s chances of becoming Alabama’s next head coach dropped significantly on Friday, starting at +300 and falling to -175 in the morning, then -250 in the afternoon after he reportedly canceled a local radio appearance.
