McIlroy is now aiming to become one of just four golfers to win the tournament three or more times.
Despite his disappointing T-12 finish in the PGA Championship, McIroy was one of the favorites for the second major of 2026. Prior to this, he had just secured his fourth career victory in the Wells Fargo Championship.
