The sports betting market in Canada is currently restricted to one province, but that hasn’t stopped sports organizations from partnering with betting providers to support a growing sports betting industry in Ontario. These efforts are likely in anticipation of the eventual nationwide expansion of sports betting, as top sports betting apps look to expand their reach.

Sportsnet, Canada’s top sports broadcasting network, has recently partnered with Sportradar, a prominent sports technology company that specializes in creating immersive fan experiences at the convergence of the sports, media, and betting sectors.

The recently established partnership offers fans of the sports network cutting-edge proprietary data-driven statistics, digital graphics, and in-depth research content. This will benefit not only those utilizing the top sportsbooks in Canada but also provide valuable stats for casual fans of the games featured on the network.

Brian Josephs, Head of Regional Sales, North America at Sportradar, expressed pride in the partnership with Sportsnet, a leading player in the market dedicated to entertaining and informing Canadian sports fans. This collaboration highlights Sportradar’s proficiency in elevating sports content with data and technology. By working together, we aim to enhance the viewing experience for fans, bringing them closer to the action and offering a more engaging experience.

More on the deal

Sportsnet needed to catch up with other North American networks that were already offering real-time stats, player bios, and team statistics that were valuable to sports bettors and fans looking for more information on their favorite teams and players.

The sports broadcaster receives access to a comprehensive suite of top-of-the-line Sportradar products, which includes essential real-time statistics, detailed player and team information, and advanced data to be utilized across all of Sportsnet’s platforms, including Sportsnet.ca.

Sportradar will have a significant presence during Sportsnet’s NHL and MLB broadcasts.

With the surge in legal sports betting content in North America, sports enthusiasts are now seeking more detailed statistics on players, teams, and leagues. Leagues, sportsbooks, and networks broadcasting the games are all working to offer customers the most pertinent and current stats as part of their growing “fan enhancement” initiatives.

The recent Sportsnet/Sportradar agreement highlights the growing demand for increased information among sports and sports betting enthusiasts.

The Sportsnet reach

Sportsnet has established itself as the top sports broadcasting network in Canada, holding a dominant position in NHL coverage and serving as the official broadcaster of the Toronto Blue Jays, Canada’s MLB team.

Sportsnet saw the importance of offering their viewers the latest statistical products available and partnered with Sportradar to provide a cutting-edge experience that will be immediately noticeable to their audience.

Currently, only individuals participating in Ontario’s sports betting industry can utilize Sportradar’s legal expertise in sports betting. There is optimism that other provinces will follow suit, legalize their own sports betting platforms like those in Ontario, and access the wide range of products offered by Sportradar.
