Starting March 1, BetMGM’s Marquee sportsbook will enhance its Responsible Gaming efforts by prominently featuring messages promoting responsible gaming in its marketing and advertising campaigns.

Recently, the societal effects of legalized sports betting, particularly the prevalence of sports betting advertisements during televised sports events in North America, have garnered significant attention. In response, regulators are beginning to scrutinize the advertising practices of betting sites. BetMGM is one of the first providers to address this increased scrutiny by launching a campaign to raise awareness about the risks of problem gambling.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) have recently been outspoken about promoting responsible gaming and urging providers to prioritize efforts to address problem gambling.

“We are dedicated to setting the standard in promoting responsible gaming within the industry, which is why we are proud to announce our unprecedented pledge to prioritize responsible gaming messaging in our advertising,” stated BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt regarding the sports betting site’s renewed emphasis on responsible gaming.

With the continuous growth of the legalized sports betting and online gaming industry, it is crucial to provide players with the necessary tools and resources to play responsibly and safely. Additionally, there needs to be a strong commitment to promoting responsible gaming in our advertising efforts.

BetMGM’s responsible gaming initiative has been announced just in time for Problem Gambling Awareness Month, coinciding with the excitement of the March Madness men’s basketball tournament.

How will it shake out?

BetMGM has pledged to incorporate responsible gaming messaging into its popular app in North American markets. Additionally, the company will focus on advertising on television, radio, and various other media platforms in the 24 U.S. states where it operates, as well as in Ontario and Puerto Rico.

Responsible gaming messaging will be featured on all print advertising, with prominent banners at sporting venues and retail locations. The company will also incorporate problem gambling banners into their daily, weekly, and monthly social media content.

The BetMGM initiative is designed to connect with individuals interested in or currently participating in BetMGM sports betting across North America. Beginning on March 1, responsible gaming messaging from BetMGM will be prominently displayed wherever its retail and online gambling offerings are available.

The GameSense angle

BetMGM will enhance its existing partnership with GameSense, a program created by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation in 2009.

GameSense is recognized as a top source of information regarding the mechanics of casino games and the potential risks associated with gambling. BetMGM and GameSense have been partners since April 2021.

GameSense is a user-friendly platform that provides education on the realities of gambling through clear, honest, and proactive communication, instead of perpetuating myths and misconceptions.

GameSense aims to educate aspiring bettors on responsible gaming practices and staying within their budget when betting. It also offers customers and their loved ones a range of resources, including access to dedicated GameSense advisors.

MGM Resorts CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle praised the company’s commitment to responsible gaming in a press release, stating that GameSense has been instrumental in setting the industry standard for promoting player health. MGM Resorts is recognized as a leader in gaming entertainment.
