Betr and WynnBET Get Green Light to Exit Massachusetts Market This Month
The departure of Betr and WynnBET from the Massachusetts sports betting market will be finalized later this month.
The request by two struggling Massachusetts sports betting apps to cease operations was granted by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), reducing the number of active sports betting sites in the Bay State to just six.
The MGC made the decision during a meeting last Thursday to waive the required 90-day notice period for a sportsbook to stop operating in the state. This waiting period is typically used to resolve issues like Massachusetts sportsbook promotions, deposits, and returning funds to customers.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission officials approved Betr and WynnBET’s actions, allowing Betr to close on February 16 and WynnBET to follow suit on February 23.
Betr to withdraw from Massachusetts by Friday
Betr has already started the process of shutting down their operations in Massachusetts, which is happening at an interesting time for the newly established sportsbook.
Even though there was high activity in the wagering markets for the sportsbook leading up to Super Bowl weekend, new customers and deposits were not taken into account for the biggest sports betting day in America.
The Betr company executives announced that customer deposits were halted on Tuesday, February 6. They mentioned that funds would be distributed by Wednesday, February 7, based on the customer’s play-through.
All customers will be notified of the sportsbook’s closure date by Monday, the day after the Super Bowl. Betr markets in Massachusetts will be closing by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Customers in Massachusetts have until March 16 to withdraw their funds. All Betr clientele who do not meet this deadline will receive a check.
WynnBET to shutter operations later this month
WynnBET will remain open in Massachusetts for a little while longer, as stated in an email to customers on Monday following the Super Bowl.
The sportsbook in the Bay State will close its operations on Friday, February 23. A withdrawal window for WynnBET Massachusetts funds will be available for 30 days following this date.
At the conclusion of the 30-day period, a WynnBET representative will reach out to address any remaining open bets and determine appropriate resolution.
During the meeting last week, Jennifer Roberts, VP and General Counsel for WynnBET, stated that they will provide customers with a chance to receive fair value for their wager, which they could potentially place with another operator. The payout may not be the full amount of the wager since it is still unresolved, but at the very least they will refund the stake so it can be used elsewhere.
