It was no surprise that DraftKings and FanDuel dominated as the most popular sports betting apps in Massachusetts during the first quarter of 2024. These two giants have been leading the way since mobile sports betting became legal in the state on March 10, 2023, and their popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

All six Massachusetts sports betting apps provided their Q1 results to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Monday. The reports detailed the total revenues of the sportsbooks, their tax contributions to Massachusetts state and local governments, and their responsible gaming measures, which were key factors in obtaining a license in the Bay State.

The statistics validated the widespread belief in the Massachusetts market that local companies DraftKings and FanDuel were the top choices for sports betting over the past three months, with DraftKings leading the way in success. DraftKings and FanDuel in a class by themselves

DraftKings Massachusetts, headquartered in Boston, has consistently captured more than 50% of the state’s monthly handles and over half of the state’s revenues and taxes. While its performance in the first three months of 2024 was impressive, it did not quite reach half of any measurable categories.

DraftKings and FanDuel dominated the Massachusetts sports betting market, far surpassing the revenues and taxes paid by the other four sports betting apps in the state. The top two sites in Massachusetts for Q1 were DraftKings and FanDuel.

  • DraftKings Massachusetts – $91,855,541 in total revenues, $17,931,533 in taxes paid and  10.2% hold
  • FanDuel Massachusetts – $54,351,010 in total revenue, $10,870,202 in taxes paid and a 10.25% hold

And what about the rest?

In the first quarter of 2024, the four other Massachusetts sports betting apps fell far behind DraftKings and FanDuel, with only one reaching $10 million in total revenue. However, there are numerous Massachusetts sportsbook promotions available that cater to more than just the top two apps.

BetMGM Massachusetts, the provider, disclosed a total revenue of $10,127,132 and generated $2,025,426 in tax revenue during the initial quarter of 2024. Those curious about the offerings of Massachusetts’ third book can utilize our exclusive BetMGM bonus code.

The remaining items are as listed below:

  • Caesars Underscoreg Massachusetts – $3,129,923 in total revenue with $2,966,738 in tax revenue
  • ESPN BET Massachusetts – $6,585,180 in total revenue and $1,317,036 in tax revenue
  • Fanatics Betting and Gaming Massachusetts – $3,148,459 in total revenues and $603,625 in tax revenue

DraftKings remains unrivaled among Massachusetts sports betting apps, with no indication that its dominance in the state will be challenged anytime soon.

FanDuel and BetMGM are the top players in the Massachusetts sportsbook market, with uncertainty surrounding the success of the remaining three competitors.

The bottom three in the top-10 national sports betting market need to work harder to stay relevant. It is likely that the top two will continue to dominate, while the bottom three may struggle to grow their market share in the future.
