Kentucky’s legal sports betting progress

On March 31, 2023, Governor Andy Beshear officially approved the Kentucky sports betting bill, allowing for both online and retail sports betting within the state. Online sports betting is scheduled to commence at 6 a.m. ET on September 28, with residents able to pre-register from August 28 to ensure they are prepared to begin betting once the system is operational. Account funding will become available on September 7, coinciding with the launch of retail sports betting.

The recently passed legislation allows for nine retail sportsbook locations in Kentucky, aligning with the number of horse racing tracks in the state. These establishments will be able to offer in-person betting services beginning on September 7, 2023. Additionally, each racetrack has the opportunity to collaborate with up to three mobile sports betting providers.
