DraftKings is set to enter the North Carolina legal sports betting market with its official launch in the coming months.

DraftKings and NASCAR have joined forces in a long-term partnership that will grant the sports betting provider entry into the North Carolina sports betting market upon its launch. The anticipated launch is set to coincide with March Madness, starting on March 19.

In North Carolina, aspiring sports betting apps must form partnerships with professional sports leagues, franchises, or venues in order to be eligible for a license to operate.

Matt Kalish, president of DraftKings North America, stated that DraftKings and NASCAR have worked closely together for years, both dedicated to improving the fan experience. He expressed excitement for the next phase of their partnership, which will include offering DraftKings’ top-rated mobile sportsbook to fans in North Carolina.

DraftKings is set to expand its legal sports betting operations to North Carolina, making it the company’s 27th jurisdiction in North America.

Only a matter of time

DraftKings is the sixth out of the seven licensed North Carolina sports betting apps to secure a required partnership, following a recent deal made by BetMGM. Although the sportsbook had already received approval from regulators, it was lacking the essential partnership.

This means that Underdog is the only one among the top seven sports betting sites that does not have a mandatory partnership agreement in place for North Carolina prior to the anticipated launch in March.

Caesars is not currently listed as a potential sports betting app in North Carolina, but it is anticipated to be included as a provider due to its strong retail sports betting presence in partnership with the state’s tribal casinos.

Building on a relationship

DraftKings and NASCAR have a strong partnership in the North Carolina market, as they have collaborated to enhance the fan experience over the years.

DraftKings has been designated as an Authorized Gaming Operator of NASCAR and serves as the exclusive daily fantasy sports partner for the organization.

According to Joe Solosky, NASCAR’s managing director of sports betting, DraftKings has a history of improving fan experiences in various sports. He expressed excitement about the ongoing partnership with DraftKings to provide NASCAR fans in North Carolina with more ways to engage and access its top-notch mobile sportsbook.
