49ers vs. Eagles Preview
San Francisco is riding a 12-game winning streak as they aim for their lucky 13th victory to reach their second Super Bowl in the last four seasons. The Eagles (-148) will have the home field advantage against the 49ers (+126) and are favored by 2.5 points.
San Francisco 49ers
Despite not recording a passing touchdown, Brock Purdy and the 49ers were able to cover a 3.5-point spread in their 19-12 victory over the Dallas Cowboys last week. This win improved San Francisco’s record to 13-6 against the spread for the season, ranking them fourth in the NFL for cover percentage. While Purdy’s streak of throwing two or more passing touchdowns ended at seven games, the rookie remained undefeated in games he has started, now 8-0. Christian McCaffrey was the only player to score a touchdown for the 49ers, while kicker Robbie Gould contributed 12 points by making all four of his field goal attempts.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles had a smooth victory over the New York Giants in the Divisional Round, winning 38-7 without facing much adversity. This win marks their first return to the Conference Championship since 2017, with only five players remaining from that team. Despite having a star-studded roster, unexpected player Kenneth Gainwell stood out with a career-high 112 rushing yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts also had a strong performance, throwing his first touchdown since Dec. 11 and rushing for his 14th touchdown of the season.
This marks the second postseason meeting between these two teams. The 49ers emerged victorious in their previous encounter during the 1996 NFC Wild Card game with a 14-0 win. Although Philadelphia has won seven of the last 10 matchups since 2005, San Francisco claimed the victory in their most recent meeting with a 17-11 score at the start of last season. The game is set to kickoff at 3 p.m. ET.
