After a gradual process, Fanatics has officially launched its sportsbook and online casino in Michigan, making it one of the top options for sports betting in the state.

After a long wait, the latest Michigan sports betting app and online casino has finally arrived. Thursday, Feb. 22 marked the official launch of the sports apparel/gambling company in the Wolverine State, thanks to its partnership with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, which secured its Michigan license.

The launch scheduled for Thursday is the culmination of almost a year of effort. It all began with Fanatics finalizing its acquisition of PointsBet USA last summer, which granted market access for sports betting and an online casino in the state. It is expected that the book will soon release promotions for their Michigan sportsbook.

Michigan’s launch is the latest in a series of recent openings for Fanatics sportsbooks. Fanatics Pennsylvania opened in January and Iowa earlier this month. Fanatics is expected to be one of the new North Carolina sports betting apps when that market goes live in March.

The Fanatics sportsbook can now be accessed in 13 states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Colorado, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Additionally, many previous PointsBet licenses have been transitioned to the Fanatics brand.

The Michigan market

Michigan is known as one of the most dependable markets for sports betting in the United States. It consistently ranks in the top 10 states for revenue in the legal sports wagering industry and boasts some of the highest-rated sports betting apps available.

Michigan currently has 14 sports betting sites and a growing retail wagering industry, which includes popular destinations such as FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars.

Michigan is one of six states that permit online casinos, contributing to the $6.2 billion in revenue from online casinos out of the $65 billion generated by the national gaming sector in 2023, as reported by the American Gaming Association.

The launch of Fanatics iGaming in Michigan is a significant development that has the potential to become the company’s main source of revenue in the Wolverine state.

Improving on PointsBet

Since its debut in Michigan alongside nine other sports betting sites, PointsBet had achieved moderate success. From the launch date until the end of January, the provider accumulated $394.8 million in accepted bets and reported $33.8 million in lifetime revenues.

FanDuel Michigan has reached a $400-million handle in individual months.

PointsBet, one of the betting sites in North America, showed positive momentum in the Michigan market towards the end of its time there. The company consistently reported revenues of at least $1.8 million each month from September through January.

The expectation is that increasing brand awareness of the Fanatics brand, its innovative 5% “FanCash” rewards program, and the company’s revitalization of the Michigan market will help boost market share previously held by PointsBet before its closure.
