Chiefs vs. Eagles Game Preview

In a historic first for the NFL, the 2017 champion Eagles will face off against the 2019 champion Chiefs in the Super Bowl. This matchup will feature two African American quarterbacks going head-to-head for the first time. The Eagles are favored to win at -122, with a 1.5-point advantage over the Chiefs who are at +104. The total score is set at 50.5 points.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are heading to their third Super Bowl in four years, aiming for their fourth franchise championship. With seven consecutive wins under their belt, they are fresh off a 23-20 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

Kansas City avenged their loss to the Bengals in last year’s Conference Championship by defeating them this time. Patrick Mahomes, the NFL’s leading passer, threw for over 300 yards for the 11th time this season. He connected with Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the end zone for the second straight game, with the receiver totaling a season-high 116 yards. Travis Kelce scored his third postseason touchdown after finishing the regular season as the second-best in receiving touchdowns. Kelce is the second most productive postseason receiver in history, trailing only Jerry Rice in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are in their third Super Bowl of the 21st century, aiming for their fifth franchise championship. They have been dominant in the postseason, with a 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers and outscoring opponents by 55 points.

In the recent game, the Eagles heavily leaned on their running game, scoring all four touchdowns on the ground. Although Jalen Hurts had a season-low 121 passing yards, he has accumulated an impressive 15 rushing touchdowns so far. Despite not throwing the ball as much as other quarterbacks (ranking outside the top 15 in passing attempts), Hurts has been efficient, ranking fifth in passer rating among starting QBs. A.J. Brown, the top wide receiver, finished third in receiving touchdowns, while DeVonta Smith ranked ninth in receiving yards during the regular season.

The Eagles and Chiefs will face off in their first playoff matchup in NFL history. Kansas City has emerged victorious in the last three meetings and currently holds a 5-4 lifetime record against Philadelphia. The game is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
