Ohio Adds New Platform Provider to Sports Betting Landscape
Legal betting in Ohio has had a strong start.
On January 1, the state officially began its legal sports betting market, with Amelco, a sports betting platform provider, verifying that its products were also launched on the same day.
Amelco, a UK-based company, offers a complete online sports betting platform. The supplier reported processing more than 11 million transactions in Ohio during the New Year’s weekend.
Amelco is among the pioneering sports betting platform providers to launch in the recently established Ohio sports betting market, which already features 16 top sportsbooks such as Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, PointsBet, and Barstool Underscoreg.
Where else is Amelco live?
Fanatics, after recently starting operations in Ohio, has announced plans to use Amelco’s source code to enhance its sports betting product. This partnership was revealed during a hearing in early January as Fanatics sought licensure in the upcoming Massachusetts sports betting market.
In addition to developing code for various international online sportsbooks, Amelco has also created code for multiple US mobile sportsbooks, such as WynnBet and FOX Bet.
Amelco will offer its player account management system and online sports wagering system for Fanatics’ online sports betting product as part of their partnership. In addition, Amelco became the second provider to join the Arkansas sports betting market in 2022 following the state’s launch last March.
Amelco collaborated with Saracen Casino to develop the BetSaracen mobile sports betting app, enabling the casino to become one of the pioneering operators to offer state-wide sports wagering in Arkansas. With its recent introduction in Ohio, Amelco is now operating in 15 states throughout the U.S. and aims to further expand into additional jurisdictions this year.
Fanatics also looking to continue U.S. expansion
Fanatics’ collaboration with Amelco is further evidence of their expansion into the sports betting industry in the United States.
In January, The Fanatics Underscoreg at FedEx Field made history as the first retail sportsbook to operate within an NFL stadium, accepting bets during the NFL Divisional Round.
Fanatics has been planning to break into the sports betting industry for some time, and its actions in 2023 are definitely making progress towards that goal. Along with debuting in the Ohio and Maryland sports betting scenes, Fanatics also obtained a mobile sports betting license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on January 12th.
This opportunity allows the company to introduce its sportsbook offering before the official launch of online sports betting in Massachusetts, anticipated to be in March (despite the recent debut of retail sports betting on Jan. 31).
