The AGA announced in a press release on Tuesday that a record 31.4 million American adults intend to bet on Super Bowl LVI. Bettors are expected to wager around $7.61 billion, a significant increase of about 78 percent from last year’s $3.33 billion.

Bill Miller, President and CEO of the AGA, states that the increasing interest in legal sports wagering among Americans is evident. The expansion of legal options nationwide not only safeguards fans and the integrity of games and bets, but also serves as a warning to illegal operators that their days are numbered.

The sports betting industry has made responsible gaming a top priority, with a focus on providing resources for players. One notable initiative is the relaunch of HaveAGamePlan.org by the AGA.

The AGA-founded campaign brings together leagues, teams, media outlets, sportsbooks, and other key industry participants to make sports betting education more accessible for fans.

Additionally, the AGA found that 76 percent of bettors believe it is important to place bets through a legal operator, marking an increase of 11 percent from the previous year.

Approximately 18.5 million Americans are expected to engage in casual betting activities like Super Bowl pools or squares contests with friends, while 18.2 million will place bets through traditional means like online platforms, retail sportsbooks, or bookies. These figures represent a 23% and 78% increase from last year’s totals.

The sports betting industry is gaining momentum and experiencing growth in anticipation of Super Bowl LVI, which can be attributed to the legalization of sports gambling in 10 more American states since last year’s championship game. Currently, there are legal sports betting markets in 30 states and Washington D.C., with three more markets set to launch soon.

Furthermore, as March Madness kicks off on Tuesday, March 15, there is ample evidence to suggest that the ongoing growth of the sports betting industry will continue to thrive.
