The 2024 Big 12 Championship odds from top college football betting sites have Utah and Kansas State as the favorites as the conference welcomes four new teams.

The Big 12 conference will undergo some changes this year, similar to other conferences in college football. Following the disbandment of the Pac-12, the Big 12 has welcomed Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, and Colorado, former members of the defunct conference.

After the addition of UCF, BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston last offseason, Utah is already being touted as a top contender for the conference title. The Utes are on par with 2022 champions Kansas State and are currently leading the college football playoff odds for the Big 12.

Although Utah and Kansas State are favored to win the conference, it is Colorado that has generated the most attention this offseason. Led by QB Shedeur Sanders, a top contender for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Buffaloes are expected to be the most prominent program in the conference.

Nonetheless, Arizona could be considered a dark horse in the competition due to the offensive prowess of the returning Wildcats, highlighted by QB Noah Fifita who is a strong candidate for the Heisman Trophy.

Below are the 2024 Big 12 championship odds, as provided by our top college football betting sites.

Favorites to win 2024 Big 12 Championship

Utah (+350 via DraftKings)

Kyle Whittingham is considered one of the top five coaches in college football. He consistently maximizes the potential of his players and achieved a successful season last year, despite having a backup quarterback who is a pig farmer filling in while his starter, Cameron Rising, was injured with an ACL tear.

With Rising returning to the team, Utah appears ready to make a strong start in their Big 12 debut. In the two seasons that Rising led the team, Utah made consecutive appearances in the Rose Bowl and had an overall record of 20-8. Rising, who missed all of last season, is now healthy and so is three-time all-conference tight end Brant Kuithe.

Utah has strengthened their offense by adding Dorian Singer from USC through the portal to provide more options for quarterback Rising. Let’s not forget about Utah’s fierce defense, led by standout linebacker Karene Reid. With a lineup of potential All-Big 12 defenders, it’s no surprise that Utah has the lowest college football championship odds in the Big 12 in their debut season in the conference.

Kansas State (+350 via FanDuel)

For years, Utah had been considered the Kansas State of the Pac-12, but now the two teams could potentially face off in the Big 12 Championship game. Similar to Utah, the Wildcats may not have top-tier talent, but they excel in coaching and determination. Head coach Chris Klieman led the team to a conference title two years ago and has secured a spot in the rankings for the past two seasons.

Although Klieman lost veteran QB Will Howard to Ohio State through the portal, Kansas State is optimistic about sophomore Avery Johnson taking over the quarterback position. Johnson, who was a finalist in the Elite 11, demonstrated his talent in limited playing time as a freshman, scoring a total of 12 touchdowns. He will be supported on offense by DJ Giddens and Dante Cephas, a transfer from Penn State.

Kansas State consistently ranks among the top defensive teams in the Big 12, with linebacker Austin Moore and cornerback Jacob Parrish leading the way. Last season, their defense was one of the top 30 in the nation in terms of points allowed.

Kansas (+750 via Caesars)

In the Big 12, there are many successful coaches, but Lance Leipold stands out as the ultimate overachiever. He transformed Wisconsin-Whitewater into a dominant D-III program before reviving Buffalo. In just two seasons, he guided Kansas to nine wins, a feat not achieved since 2007.

With Leipold’s enthusiasm for creative plays and knack for discovering talented recruits, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Kansas make a run for the Big 12 Championship. The Jayhawks boast an electrifying QB-RB duo in Jalon Daniels and Devin Neal. On defense, Cobee Bryant stands out as one of the top players in the conference, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors in consecutive seasons.

Colorado Big 12 Championship odds

(+4000 via FanDuel)

Colorado is the elephant, or buffalo, in the room when discussing the Big 12. The Buffaloes are a team that is constantly talked about, whether it be for their successes or failures. Deion Sanders has faced criticism for his team-building decisions and tactics, especially after the hype surrounding their first three wins last season.

After winning three games in a row, Colorado went on to finish with a disappointing 1-8 record. Their four wins came against TCU, Nebraska, Colorado State, and Arizona State, who collectively had a record of 18-30. Despite being an entertaining team, Colorado’s talented QB Shedeur, son of Deion, and the skilled player Travis Hunter playing on both offense and defense, cannot compensate for the weaknesses of the roster.

Colorado used the transfer portal to construct a 4-8 roster last year. When Deion expressed dissatisfaction with the outcomes, he returned to the portal. The Buffalos are expected to have as many as 10 new transfers starting this season, with all five positions on the offensive line being filled by transfers.

How to bet on the Big 12 Championship

The Big 12 has become a compelling conference for betting, especially with the departure of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC. The addition of four new programs, two of which are expected to be strong contenders right away, adds an element of unpredictability. To choose the best team to bet on, consider factors such as returning production, coaching success, and roster improvements through the transfer portal.

Utah is a standout team with high returning production, a veteran QB in Rising, and a successful coach in Whittingham who has won in multiple conferences. Arizona is also an intriguing program to watch, with new head coach Brent Brennan leading the team in his first season.
