McCarthy and his team had a rocky start to the Rose Bowl, with an interception on the first play of the game causing some initial worry. However, the turnover was overturned and McCarthy managed to avoid any further risky plays with the ball.

McCarthy only has four interceptions for the season, three of which were in a single game against Bowling Green in September. In the 11 games since then, McCarthy has only thrown one interception. According to PFF, he has only had eight plays that could have resulted in a turnover during that time.
