Here are our predictions for which college football programs will surpass expectations and disappoint fans in the upcoming 2022 season. We have identified five win total markets to target and have placed our futures win total bets for the 2022-23 regular season.

With August upon us, college football season is approaching. It’s the perfect time to make your futures bets before the odds lose their value. Markets that seemed favorable in early August may change significantly by the end of the month.

I have noticed that books often give higher ratings to popular teams and lower ratings to less popular ones due to the influence of public money. Therefore, I have decided to bet the Under on poorly performing big-market teams and the Over on successful smaller-market teams.

We will avoid teams with new coaches and instead focus on teams whose coaches have had some time to establish their program, but are now under pressure to show improvement in order to secure their positions.

Below are my top picks for the total number of wins in the regular season of the 2022-23 college football season, with odds provided by FanDuel, Pointsbet, and BetMGM. The confidence level of each pick is rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars.

College Football Regular-Season Win Totals Futures Betting Picks

TCU to win fewer than 6.5 games at +125 odds on FanDuel. Baylor to win more than 7.5 games at -145 odds on PointsBet. Utah to win more than 8.5 games at -140 odds on PointsBet. Vanderbilt to win more than 2.5 games at +145 odds on FanDuel. Florida State to win more than 6.5 games at -130 odds on BetMGM.

What Are The Best College Football Regular-Season Win Total Bets For 2022-23?

TCU Under 6.5 (+125)

The Big 12 is causing confusion in the markets. Baylor, the top-ranked team in preseason polls, is considered an underdog with +600 odds to win the conference. Their projected win total is set at 7.5.

On the other hand, TCU, ranked seventh, has a win total of 6.5, and you have the option to bet on the Under with favorable odds.

Last year, the Horned Frogs pulled off a remarkable upset against Baylor at home, but they will now have to face the Bears in Waco this season. It is likely that they will suffer defeats in their upcoming road games against Texas and Oklahoma State, as well as in the home game against Oklahoma. In order to surpass their current performance, the Horned Frogs would need to defeat two out of Iowa State, Kansas State, and West Virginia. However, with changes in coaching staff and quarterback, it seems unlikely that they will achieve this.

Baylor Over 7.5 (-145)

The preseason conference rankings are overlooking Baylor, which seems absurd considering they are the current conference leaders and defending champions. Despite losing two running backs to the NFL, the Bears have a strong offensive line with four returning starters, giving them an advantage in the ground game.

With Lincoln Riley no longer at Oklahoma, Baylor has a chance to come out on top in Norman. However, the Bears’ schedule doesn’t necessarily depend on an upset against the Sooners for them to succeed.

Baylor is expected to win against Albany, Texas State, Kansas, Kansas State, and TCU in their home games, as well as against West Virginia and Texas Tech on the road. To exceed expectations, they only need to secure a victory against Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, BYU, or Oklahoma State.

Utah Over 8.5 (-140)

Let’s take a look at the Pac-12 for a bet that will no longer be available once the season begins. Most sportsbooks have set the Utah Utes’ win total at nine, with the odds favoring the Over. However, PointsBet is lagging behind, so we’ll place our bet there.

Since 2014, the Utes have won at least nine games in all but two seasons, including their 3-2 performance in 2020. It is expected that Utah will sweep their non-conference games against Florida, Southern Utah, and San Diego State, as well as win their home games against Oregon State, Arizona, and Stanford.

The Utes should secure eight wins after their road trips to Colorado and Washington State, leaving them likely needing to defeat just one of UCLA, USC, or Oregon.

Vanderbilt Over 2.5 (+145)

I may be biased, but I believe Clark Lea has the potential to exceed expectations in his second year. With both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Vanderbilt, Lea has shown his commitment to the university. Additionally, he has managed to secure one of the strongest recruiting classes in recent years for Vanderbilt.

The Dores are expected to win their first game in Hawaii and are likely to secure another victory in their home game against FCS Elon, who had a 6-5 record last season. Although Vanderbilt may lose to Wake Forest at home, they have a good chance of defeating Northern Illinois on the road or another weaker SEC team like South Carolina or Missouri, which could result in a +145 win.

Florida State Over 6.5 (-130)

The Florida State Seminoles have experienced a significant decline in recent years. Prior to their 5-7 season in 2018, the team had not finished with a losing record since 1976. Unfortunately, they have been unable to achieve a winning record since then.

Nevertheless, in 2022 third-year head coach Mike Norvell has the potential to steer the team in the right direction. After improving from a 3-6 record to 5-7 last year, another two-win improvement would be a solid bet. With most of his offensive linemen returning and the addition of Bless Harris at tackle during the offseason, Norvell’s team should see an improvement that will help fuel his run-heavy offense to a successful seven-win season.

Florida State is expected to secure victories at home against Duquense, Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Louisiana. The upcoming road games against Syracuse and Louisville are also favorable matchups. The team’s main challenge will be defeating a weak Florida team at home. Additionally, an upset win on the road against NC State is a possibility.
