As we head into the third major of 2024, Scottie Scheffler is once again the clear favorite according to the odds on our top golf betting sites. Our U.S. Open expert picks predict he will come out on top at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

With no uncertainty, Scottie Scheffler solidified his position as the top pick in the betting odds for the 2024 U.S. Open by clinching victory at the Memorial Tournament last week. This win marked his fifth triumph of the season, a feat not achieved since 2016-17, and propelled the current Masters champion to earnings of $24 million for the year.

It has been 10 years since Martin Kaymer’s 8-stroke victory at Pinehurst No. 2 in Moore County, N.C., when the U.S. Open returns to the course. Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, and Adam Scott are some of the contenders looking to make their mark in 2014, with Rory McIlroy finishing T-23 after struggling with a plus-6 score at Pinehurst.

Here are our expert picks for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, where the winner will claim the third major championship of 2024.

2024 U.S. Open outright picks: Who’ll win at Pinehurst?

Scottie Scheffler

We’re at this point.

Every U.S. Open betting card should include a wager on Scheffler to win. He has won five times this year, with his victories coming within an eight-event span starting with the Arnold Palmer Invitational in mid-March. Even his worst finish during this streak, a T-8 in the PGA Championship, was impressive considering he was preparing for Round 2 while in a jail cell in Louisville, Ky.

We are lacking originality and boldness by starting our picks this week with the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking. Consider making fewer outright bets than usual and adding those units to Scheffler’s outright ticket. Alternatively, the +333 outlier odds from BetMGM offer bettors the opportunity to use Scheffler as a hedge against any other bets to win the U.S. Open.

Placing a winning $10 bet at +333 odds would result in a profit of $33.30. These winnings could potentially offset losses from other bets, whether placed individually or as part of a larger wager.

Top odds: +333 at BetMGM

Hideki Matsuyama

After his come-from-behind win in the Genesis Invitational in mid-February, Matsuyama has had a relatively uneventful season. He finished tied for 38th in the Masters and 35th in the PGA Championship, but he displayed glimpses of his former self with a T-8 finish in the recent Memorial Tournament.

The ex-Masters champion finished in a tie for eighth place at Muirfield Village Golf Club, ranking seventh in the field with 1.54 strokes gained: tee-to-green. He excelled in his approach shots to the green and gained strokes through his putting. Additionally, he was one of the most accurate drivers in the field, a crucial skill in the challenging U.S. Open-like conditions of the week.

Matsuyama has previous experience at Pinehurst No. 2, finishing T-35 in 2014. We are finding great value with FanDuel offering odds of +5500, compared to Caesars’ lower odds of +3500. This represents a $200 difference in potential profit on a $10 bet.
