Despite the absence of MLB home run leader Shohei Ohtani, the 2023 Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park in Seattle will feature a star-studded lineup. Let’s take a look at the odds from top MLB betting sites.

Shohei Ohtani, the superstar of the Los Angeles Angels, developed a blister less than a week before the Home Run Derby, disappointing baseball fans who were looking forward to watching the MLB’s home run leader in action. Despite the setback, the Angels phenom currently leads the MLB with 31 home runs and is favored at +100 on FanDuel to finish the regular season on top.

The 2023 Home Run Derby field is packed with talent, even in the absence of Ohtani. Pete Alonso, a two-time Derby champion from the New York Mets, takes the lead, but he will face tough competition as he lost his crown to Juan Soto last year.

Home Run Derby field 2023

  • Pete Alonso, 1B, New York Mets
  • Randy Arozarena, OF, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Mookie Betts, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B, Toronto Blue Jays
  • Luis Robert Jr., OF, Chicago White Sox
  • Julio Rodriguez, OF, Seattle Mariners
  • Adley Rutschman, C, Baltimore Orioles
  • Adolis Garcia, OF, Texas Rangers

Pete Alonso of the New York Mets, who claimed victory in the event in 2019 and 2021, is the standout player in the 2023 field. He holds the record for the most home runs (174) in Home Run Derby history.

Julio Rodriguez, who has already confirmed his attendance this year, finished in second place in 2022 and will have the support of a lively Mariners home crowd. He will be accompanied by Adley Rutschman, a rising star from the Baltimore Orioles who is ranked fourth among MLB catchers in home runs at just 25 years old.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the standout from the Toronto Blue Jays, holds the all-time records for most home runs in a single round (40) and a single Home Run Derby (91). He will have a tough challenge ahead from Randy Arozarena, a power hitter from the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. Arozarena has already hit 16 home runs this season, just four away from matching his career high.

Luis Robert Jr., outfielder for the Chicago White Sox, was included in the lineup on Wednesday. Robert has had a phenomenal start to the season, hitting 25 home runs, which is almost double his previous single-season record.

Mookie Betts, outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be making his debut in the derby. With 23 home runs already under his belt this season, Betts has some added pressure to perform well, as his mother has jokingly warned him that finishing last is not an option.

On Wednesday, Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers was announced as the last participant. Garcia, who has hit 21 home runs, is on track to hit the 30-homer mark for the second time in his career.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Favorite

Pete Alonso (+350 via Caesars)

Alonso successfully defended his Home Run Derby title in both 2019 and 2021, with the 2020 event canceled due to COVID-19. He is having one of his strongest home run seasons yet, hitting 26 home runs by the All-Star break.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Contender

Luis Robert Jr. (+500 via DraftKings)

Robert’s odds of +550 make him a standout value, especially considering his 26 home runs in 89 games played. This is even more impressive when compared to Guerrero, who has hit 13 fewer home runs on the season.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Long shot

Mookie Betts (+1700 via FanDuel)

Betts’ name being listed with such long odds in any significant MLB betting market is unexpected.

He advocated for his own participation in the event and, as mentioned earlier, his mother provided him with plenty of motivation. With just 86 games played this season, he is only nine home runs away from tying his career high of 35 set last season.
