The Philadelphia Phillies are aiming to maintain their lead in the NL as they take on the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. We are providing our top player props for the Phillies vs. Cubs game, based on the most favorable MLB odds available.

The Philadelphia Phillies, with a record of 55-29, aim to maintain their strong performance against the Chicago Cubs, who are currently at 39-46. Despite the absence of Bryce Harper, a top contender for MLB MVP, the two teams will face off at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. ET, airing on TBS.

The Phillies are missing Harper and Schwarber, and are also planning to start a rookie pitcher against the Cubs. The real question is if they can maintain their position as favorites for the World Series until their two star players come back.

Phillies vs. Cubs expert picks

Alec Bohm Over 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Even though Harper was considered one of the top contenders for NL MVP, Bohm has also been making a strong case for himself. At 27 years old, he is having a breakout season in the majors and is likely to earn his first All-Star selection.

He is the top performer in hits (95), doubles (28), and RBIs (68) for Philadelphia, and ranks second in total bases (155) behind Harper. Bohm had an impressive June with an average of two total bases per game, including 11 extra-base hits in 25 games. His strong performance is expected to continue against Cubs starter Hayden Wesneski.

Wesneski relies on his sweeper and four-seamer pitches, with Bohm hitting them well this season. Bohm has a .370 average and .519 SLG against sweepers, and a .352 average and .549 SLG against four-seamers. These stats suggest a 47.62% win probability, meaning a $10 bet could result in an $11 profit.

Michael Mercado Over 3.5 strikeouts ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Phillies will rely on Bohm to hit a home run because they are planning to start Mercado, a 25-year-old rookie who is one of Philadelphia’s top prospects. However, Mercado has only pitched one inning in the majors up to this point.

After throwing a shutout eighth inning in his debut on June 24, he is poised to carry that momentum into his first start. Throughout his time in AAA with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs this season, Mercado maintained an average of 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings. I predict he will reach at least four strikeouts in his upcoming start.

The Cubs rank sixth in the MLB for strikeouts with 760 and have the eighth-highest strikeout rate at 23.9%. This should give Mercado a good opportunity to display his four-seamer and curveball in his debut. Although the odds only result in a $6.21 profit on a $10 bet, they suggest a 61.69% chance of this prop being successful.

Ian Happ Over 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐

Although I anticipate Mercado will perform adequately in his first start and achieve at least four strikeouts, I still believe he will have a challenging debut against the Cubs.

The Cubs may strike out frequently, but when they make contact, it can be as powerful as a Michael Jordan slam dunk. Ian Happ, in particular, exemplifies this style with his impressive .500 SLG and 12 extra-base hits in June.

While the sample size is small, Mercado frequently relies on his four-seam fastball (53.3%), a pitch that Happ has excelled with this season. Happ has a .287 batting average and a .542 expected slugging percentage against this pitch. Despite the odds suggesting only a 43.48% chance of winning, a $10 bet would yield a $13 profit.
