Joe Biden was born in 1941 and will be turning 82 shortly after the 2024 election.

Just like everyone else, Biden is not immune to the passage of time. He has never shied away from this fact and has been incorporating lighthearted jokes about his age into his speeches for some time now.

However, the advanced age of the oldest-ever sitting president continues to be a major concern for voters, affecting both Joe Biden’s chances and his position in the 2024 U.S. presidential election odds. These concerns were amplified following Biden’s poor showing in the first 2024 presidential debate on June 27.

Biden has been having difficulty clearly expressing his views, often trailing off and becoming incoherent. As a result, he has been slipping in the oddsboards at our top Ontario sports betting sites, now sitting behind Vice President Kamala Harris.

Is Biden able to recover from calls to withdraw from the race? Or are the Democrats facing a truly historic summer ahead?

Joe Biden presidential election odds 2024 analysis

Biden was behind Trump before the first debate, but the gap between them was much smaller. However, his standing dropped to +175 in the hours following the debate.

The downward trend persisted, with Biden’s odds at +1000 on BetVictor, while facing criticism from his own party. Nancy Pelosi even questioned on MSNBC whether Biden’s debate performance was just a blip or a long-term issue.

Additionally, Democrat Lloyd Doggett of Texas was the first member of his party to demand that Trump resign.

According to MSNBC, Doggett stated that the stakes are too high to risk a Trump victory and it is too risky to assume that what could not be changed in a year or during the debate can be changed now.

Biden’s chances took a dip, but have since improved following a BBC report confirming his commitment to staying in the race. Despite this, the president continues to face significant challenges, with his vice president maintaining a substantial lead in the odds.

The Michelle Obama odds serve as a key indicator of public opinion on Biden, despite Obama having no involvement in the race and consistently stating she will not run. Her inclusion in discussions is largely due to persistent Republican rumors that refuse to disappear.

However, her price is not much higher than Biden’s chances, and she maintains an 11-point lead over Trump in potential general election polls conducted by Ipsos.

Joe Biden Democrat presidential nominee odds analysis 2024

Biden is the only one who can lead the party in a new direction with his actions.

He easily navigated the primary process, defeating the president’s few weak challengers along the way. As a result, all Democratic delegates are now pledged to support him during the party’s convention starting on August 19th.

Having the current president endorse someone within his own party to be the nominee is a significant event at any time, but especially so in early July.

President Joe Biden waves to the crowd after being sworn in during his inauguration and the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20, 2021.
President Joe Biden waves to the crowd after being sworn in during his inauguration and the inauguration of Vice President Kamala Harris at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20, 2021.

For now, Biden is committed to staying in the race and has been alternating with Harris as the top contender for the Democratic nomination on the oddsboard from bet365.

However, his polling numbers against Trump continue to decline while the odds of Donald Trump winning a second term as president are increasing. According to a New York Times/Siena College poll reported by Politico, Biden is currently trailing Trump by six percentage points. Additionally, his approval rating has dropped to 36.9%, the lowest at this stage of an election campaign since George H.W. Bush over three decades ago.

It is crucial for Biden to excel in all public appearances now. Otherwise, calls for him to gracefully step down will increase.
