The fifth road course race of the NASCAR Cup Series is set to start this weekend. Our experts suggest supporting one top contender and two underdogs in our Go Bowling at the Glen predictions and preview.

Chase Elliott is consistently considered the top contender at any road course on the Cup Series schedule, yet he has not secured a victory at one of these tracks so far in 2022. Despite this, he did finish in second place at last year’s race at Watkins Glen, with only Kyle Larson ahead of him.

Road courses have seen a number of unexpected winners this season, with Ross Chastain, Daniel Suarez, and Tyler Reddick all claiming their first-ever victories on these tracks. Reddick went on to secure his second win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course just two weeks ago. With the potential for another surprise winner, the upcoming Sunday afternoon race could provide an exciting twist.

These are our predictions for the 2022 Go Bowling at the Glen, determined by the odds from our top-ranked sportsbooks.

Who Will Win 2022’s Go Bowling at the Glen?

Elliott (+500)

Analyzing a road-course race without mentioning Elliott is futile. Despite his winless record this season, Elliott has an impressive track record with 6 wins in the past 3 years, making him the most successful active driver at these venues.

However, it is evident that Reddick and other competitors have started to close the gap on Elliott. Reddick managed to surpass him at Road America and secure the victory. Additionally, Elliott did not lead at the Indianapolis road course. Despite this, Elliott was initially favored to win at Circuit of the Americas with odds of +250 earlier in the season. This was in contrast to his odds of +450 for the Indianapolis race, indicating that bookmakers are beginning to adjust and possibly overcompensate for Elliott’s chances of winning.

If Elliott had won at Road America, the market would have a significantly different outlook. He led 58% of the laps in that race. Elliott’s impressive 30.4% win rate at road courses far surpasses the implied odds of 16.7%.

Buescher (+2500)

Elliott is becoming more valuable, while Chris Buescher is losing value. DraftKings originally had Elliott at +3000, but it has been lowered to +2500 by sharps. Other books have Buescher at +1600. This is due to Buescher’s recent strong performances, including almost winning last weekend’s race at Richmond and achieving top-10 finishes in the last three road-course races.

Buescher and his RFK Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski, posted two of the top three fastest laps at the Indianapolis road course. Despite not finishing as high as they hoped, both drivers could see improvement with their equipment performing well on Sunday.

Despite being two laps down due to a mechanical failure, Buescher was able to secure a top-10 finish at Indy. With his strong performance, his odds of winning should be lower, so make sure to place your bet before DraftKings updates them.

Byron (+3000)

When the odds for big-name drivers get this high, they can become valuable picks. Despite winning twice already this year, William Byron’s odds may not reflect his success. Though he hasn’t had the best record on road courses, he has yet to win at one in any division of the sport. Watkins Glen could be an interesting chance for him to change that.

Byron took part in a tire test at the Glen earlier this summer and will also have the opportunity to drive the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series race. The extensive track time in top-notch equipment is expected to boost Byron’s chances of achieving his highest road-course finish to date.

Furthermore, Byron demonstrated impressive speed at Indy, achieving the sixth-fastest lap of the race, outperforming both Larson and Elliott. With Byron’s odds at +110 for a top-10 finish, I suggest dividing your wager between this market and another.
