Carlos Alcaraz made an impressive comeback on Tuesday to reach his sixth semifinal in the last seven Grand Slams, reclaiming the top spot in the Wimbledon odds as the favorite over Novak Djokovic.

Jannik Sinner, the former favorite and top seed, was defeated by Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev will now face Alcaraz in a rematch of the 2023 semifinal for a chance to advance to the final.

Elena Rybakina, set to face Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, is still the top choice among our top sports betting sites for the women’s tournament, especially with Donna Vekic and Jasmine Paolini moving into the semifinals.

On Wednesday, Jeļena Ostapenko will face off against Barbora Krejčíková in the women’s quarterfinal match.

In the men’s competition, Djokovic secured a spot in the semifinals when Australian player Alex de Minaur withdrew. Meanwhile, American Taylor Fritz is facing off against first-time quarterfinalist Lorenzo Musetti.

2024 Wimbledon favorites

Carlos Alcaraz (+120)

Alcaraz’s career path has followed the predictions made by analysts when he burst onto the scene a few years ago. The young prodigy has the potential to reach the same level as top players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Djokovic.

In the past six majors, Alcaraz has emerged victorious three times, claiming his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open. He then went on to win his first Wimbledon championship in 2023 and secured the 2024 French Open title at Roland-Garros.

Alcaraz defeated Tommy Paul in four sets on Tuesday, securing his sixth semifinal appearance in the last seven Grand Slams. With an impressive track record against Daniil Medvedev, whom he will face in the upcoming semifinal, Alcaraz has emerged as the clear favorite having won four out of their six previous encounters, including four of the last five.

Alcaraz swept Medvedev in straight sets during the 2023 Wimbledon semifinal, and the market is favoring his chances to advance once more on Friday.

Novak Djokovic (+160)

Djokovic has dominated at Wimbledon, winning four out of the last five titles. He had a remarkable streak of 34 consecutive victories at the All England Club and 45 on center court until Alcaraz defeated him in the 2023 final. It would be unwise to bet against this exceptional player, as he excels at Wimbledon with his superior skills, often outclassing his opponents.

As the top serve defender in the world, particularly on grass, Djokovic showcases remarkable agility and seemingly endless stamina, even at the age of 36. With just one Wimbledon title separating him from tying Federer’s record of eight, Djokovic is sure to be even more driven and motivated.

The Djoker easily defeated No. 15 seed Holger Rune in the Round of 16, winning in straight sets. Although the world No. 2 showed some discomfort in his abdomen at one point, his knee, which was operated on seven weeks ago, seems to be in good shape, posing a threat to his competitors.

Elena Rybakina (+105)

After Putintseva’s surprising victory over Swiatek on Saturday, Rybakina became the favorite on the women’s oddsboard. She has only lost one set so far and easily defeated Carolina Wozniacki on Saturday.

Following an effortless opening victory against Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania at Wimbledon, Rybakina faced a tougher challenge in the second round against Laura Siegemund of Germany, losing a set but ultimately rallying to secure a spot in the third round.

Rybakina is now in a strong position to claim her second Wimbledon title in three years after defeating Elina Svitolina in straight sets during the fourth round at the French Open. The next challenge for Rybakina is facing Svitolina again in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Jasmine Paolini (+350)

Jasmine Paolini is having a breakout season, exceeding expectations after previously struggling to advance past the second round in 16 Grand Slam appearances. She has now reached her second consecutive major semifinal, following her impressive performance as a runner-up at the French Open.

Embed content YmfUv3WUh6k image

At the beginning of the year, she made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open. Paolini is fortunate to have a favorable semifinal matchup, as she will not have to face Rybakina or Svitolina. Her opponent is Donna Vekic, the 37th seed, who is appearing in the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in 43 tries.

Paolini’s electrifying play and growing confidence could lead to a second consecutive Grand Slam final appearance. Anything can happen in a high-stakes match like this.

My Wimbledon player to watch

Taylor Fritz (+1200)

Taylor Fritz is on an eight-match winning streak as he advances to the quarterfinals. Despite never making it past this stage at Wimbledon, he has a strong opportunity to do so against first-time quarterfinalist Lorenzo Musetti.

Should Fritz emerge victorious, he will probably go up against Djokovic in the semifinals, a player he has not defeated in nine previous encounters. However, there is a possibility that Djokovic could be feeling tired going into the match.

How to bet on tennis

When betting on tennis, you are predicting the results of different elements of a match or tournament. Let’s take a look at some common betting markets and examples of odds.

  • Match winner: In this market, you bet on which player will win the match. For example, if Novak Djokovic is playing against Rafael Nadal and Djokovic has odds of -150 to win, it means you would need to bet $15 to win $10 if he wins. Conversely, if Nadal has odds of +200, a $10 bet on him would yield a profit of $20 if he wins.
  • Set betting: This market involves predicting the correct scoreline of sets in a match. For instance, if you believe Djokovic will win 3-1 against Nadal, and the odds for that outcome are +300, a $10 bet would result in a $30 profit if your prediction is correct.
  • Over/Under total games: Here, you wager on whether the total number of games played in a match will be Over or Under a set number determined by the sportsbook. If the line is set at 38.5 games and you bet the Over with odds of -110, you would need the match to have 39 or more games to win. Conversely, if you bet the Under with odds of +120, a $10 bet would return $12 in profit if the match has 38 or fewer games.

There are numerous tennis betting markets beyond the ones mentioned here, all of which provide bettors with different chances to leverage their understanding of the game. It is crucial to thoroughly research players, take into account variables such as playing conditions and recent performance, and stay up-to-date on tournament updates in order to make well-informed betting choices.
