After winning consecutive titles and keeping Dan Hurley as head coach, UConn is the top pick in the 2025 March Madness odds at our top betting sites.

UConn Huskies fans can now collectively exhale, but fans of other programs may be frustrated. Head coach Dan Hurley has decided to stay with the Huskies after considering a position with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hurley chooses to return to UConn with the goal of achieving a rare three-peat in college basketball history. Despite being offered a lucrative six-year, $70 million deal to coach the Lakers, he decides to pass in order to continue coaching in Storrs.

Hurley’s commitment has solidified the Huskies as the top contenders to win the 2025 NCAA Tournament, having claimed victory in the past two seasons. However, they will face stiff competition from a revamped Kansas squad, a talented group of freshmen at Duke, and Alabama’s standout guard leading the way.

To assist in making your March Madness predictions, we have compiled the early odds and top college basketball picks.

Favorites to win March Madness

UConn (+1000 via DraftKings)

Last season, UConn made history as the first team to win consecutive NCAA Tournaments since Florida in 2006 and 2007. However, achieving a three-peat is a whole new challenge that Coach Hurley is determined to overcome. The only team to ever accomplish this feat is the UCLA Bruins under John Wooden, who won seven consecutive championships.

Will the Huskies be able to reach that elite level? Initially, it seemed that Hurley’s team would lose its talent after two consecutive March Madness appearances. However, Alex Karaban chose to stay in school instead of declaring for the NBA draft, providing a boost to the team. Hurley also took advantage of the transfer portal to strengthen his roster.

UConn has added Aidan Mahaney from Saint Mary’s and Tarris Reed Jr. from Michigan through the transfer portal. In addition, the Huskies have secured a commitment from five-star recruit Liam McNeeley and are welcoming back key contributors Hassan Diarra and Samson Johnson from last year’s championship team to solidify their position as the top team.

Kansas (+1200 via bet365)

Bill Self and Kansas had a disappointing season last year. Despite starting off ranked No. 1 after adding Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson, injuries and inconsistent play derailed their season. The Jayhawks ultimately lost to Gonzaga in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Although the portal did not yield the dividends Self had hoped for last season, he has once again constructed his team through transfers. Dickinson is making a return to the Jayhawks, and they are also adding Zeke Mayo from South Dakota State, AJ Storr from Wisconsin, and Rylan Griffen from Alabama. All three newcomers are anticipated to make a significant impact.

Additionally, the return of seniors KJ Adams Jr. and Dajuan Harris adds to the formidable roster of experienced players at Kansas, making them one of the most seasoned teams in the nation.

Duke (+1400 via Caesars)

Duke’s chances of winning the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament have slightly decreased since initially being favored. It is understandable that the Blue Devils have been surpassed by more experienced teams like UConn and Kansas, especially following the departure of key starters Jeremy Roach to Baylor and Mark Mitchell to Missouri via the transfer portal.

Duke’s success this season, in Jon Scheyer’s third year as head coach, will depend on how fast Flagg can meet expectations. As the top recruit in the nation and a projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Flagg holds the key to Duke’s potential.

With four of last year’s top five players no longer on the team, Flagg will have the chance to step up as the main option at Duke as a freshman. He will be supported by the Blue Devils’ only returning starter, Tyrese Proctor, as well as transfers Sion James (Tulane), Mason Gillis (Purdue), and Maliq Brown (Syracuse).

Hosted by the NCAA, this yearly tournament showcases 68 top college basketball teams in a winner-takes-all format. Spanning several weeks in March and April, the event culminates in the crowning of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Champion.

March Madness is unique because of its unpredictability and ability to create exciting upsets and underdog stories. Teams from across the country, with different backgrounds and conference affiliations, come together with the goal of winning the championship and cutting down the nets.

March Madness provides audiences with unforgettable moments, from buzzer-beaters to nail-biting finishes, that leave a lasting impact on the history of college basketball.

March Madness odds explained

March Madness odds are a type of futures market that predicts the next season’s champion, typically released just before or after the current year’s NCAA Tournament. Some sportsbooks have already released the 2025 March Madness odds, with more expected to follow after Monday’s title game.

Throughout the year, the odds are frequently updated to account for various factors such as coach changes, player movements, and injuries. As the regular season progresses, the odds are further influenced by player and team performances.

As a team improves its performance, its odds of winning decrease. For instance, if North Carolina began with odds of +2000 in a season and then won 10 games in a row, their odds would likely decrease to +1500. Conversely, if they started with +2000 odds but lost their first 10 games, their odds would likely increase to +5000 or more. Lower odds indicate a higher implied probability of that team being the future winner in the betting market.
