We are relying on a surprising weapon in Cincinnati’s offense as we make our top prediction for the Bengals vs. Steelers game on Saturday, using the most favorable NFL odds from reputable sportsbooks.

With an 8-6 record, the Cincinnati Bengals are currently in sixth place in the AFC postseason race as they head into Week 16. Despite Joe Burrow’s season-ending injury, many have counted them out, but the team has rallied behind backup quarterback Jake Browning and appears ready for another playoff run.

In the meantime, the Pittsburgh Steelers have plummeted in the NFL playoff standings after suffering three consecutive losses. These defeats came after Kenny Pickett’s injury, and he will once again be unable to play in Week 16.

Can Cincinnati maintain its playoff aspirations, or will Pittsburgh reenter the playoff race?

Here is our top prediction for the Bengals vs. Steelers game on Saturday, including our Week 16 predictions, player props, and confidence level on the pick (odds sourced from our top NFL betting sites).

Bengals vs. Steelers prediction: Saturday

Trenton Irwin Over 11.5 receiving yards (-110 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Since Ja’Marr Chase is unavailable for Saturday’s game, it makes sense to focus on Tee Higgins’ receiving props. Higgins has a total as high as 60.5 across our top sports betting sites, indicating that the market shares this belief.

The issue lies in the fact that Higgins could face tough coverage from Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Despite being a rookie, Porter is ranked 28th in coverage grades by PFF. He has only allowed 20 receptions on 44 targets in 2023, according to PFF. Therefore, we should consider exploring other options.

Although Tyler Boyd is expected to have an increased role, receiver Trenton Irwin is set to see a significant boost in playing time this weekend. Irwin has caught 18 passes on 24 targets so far in 2023 and has played 10-15 offensive snaps in each of the past three weeks.

However, in the last instance when Cincinnati was missing one of its top receivers, Irwin played an average of 41 snaps in the three weeks when Higgins was out between Weeks 10 and 12. During this time, he received 10 targets and made six catches for 115 yards. Irwin surpassed this receiving goal in all three games and has achieved it in every game in which he has caught at least one pass.

Although projections tend to be conservative for Irwin, we believe he has the potential to reach over 20 receiving yards as a third-year receiver from Stanford. It could be a good idea to consider placing an extra bet on his +225 odds for achieving 25-plus receiving yards at bet365.
