The Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champions, are aiming to secure their first win of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. Here are our top predictions for the Chiefs vs. Jaguars matchup, based on the most recent NFL odds from leading sports betting apps.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense struggled on opening night in the absence of star tight end Travis Kelce. They had four drops and no receiver had more than three catches in the loss to the Detroit Lions.

Kelce is listed as questionable for Sunday’s Week 2 game, but Adam Schefter reports that he is likely to take the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacksonville needed a 14-point fourth quarter to defeat the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, with Jags wide receiver Calvin Ridley making a significant impact on the victory by recording eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown.

It can be said with certainty that Ridley had no trouble getting back into the swing of things in his Jacksonville debut.

Below is our top prediction for the Chiefs vs. Jaguars matchup, along with our favorite NFL bets for Week 2. We also include our picks for potential upsets and player props, with odds sourced from trusted NFL betting sites. Our confidence in each pick is rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars.

Chiefs vs. Jaguars prediction

Patrick Mahomes Over 298.5 passing yards (-110 via bet365) ⭐⭐⭐

During most of Thursday night’s game, the Lions’ defense outperformed the Chiefs’ offense. However, Mahomes had the potential to gain more yards and secure a victory if not for some missed opportunities. Despite frustration from bettors over his 226-yard performance in Week 1, the return of Kelce could greatly improve their passing game.

The Jaguars’ secondary is in need of major improvement, as evidenced by allowing rookie Anthony Richardson to throw for 223 yards in his NFL debut, which would have been his fifth-best passing game with the Florida Gators last season, regardless of who they face on the field for the Chiefs.

Mahomes had a stellar regular season performance with 331 yards against the Jaguars, but in the postseason he was limited to 195 yards due to an early ankle injury. Despite this setback, his playoff performance was considered an anomaly compared to his consistent regular season success. Throughout the season, Mahomes threw for over 300 yards in 10 games and never fell below the 200-yard mark.

Instead of analyzing which team has the edge in terms of the spread or predicting if the offenses will score over 50 points, just have faith in Mahomes to deliver his usual performance.

Four out of five major sportsbooks have set the total at 298.5, with FanDuel being the only one offering a higher number. However, the price for this higher number is not significantly better than elsewhere, in fact, it is worse than what bet365 is offering.

With four sportsbooks all having the same total, the determining factor here is the price. This is why bet365 is the top choice for placing your bets. Don’t hesitate – the total is likely to increase as the week goes on.

Chiefs vs. Jaguars odds analysis

The Chiefs initially opened as 2.5-point favorites, but the spread has since increased to 3.5 despite the Jaguars receiving the majority of wagers at 58%. If the public continues to support the Jags, oddsmakers may adjust the spread back to the key number of three. It is unlikely that the spread will go higher than four or lower than two, even when Kelce is confirmed as active.

The opening total is 51 and has remained unchanged. Currently, 62% of bets are in favor of the Over, and we anticipate this percentage will increase before the game begins. If Kelce is declared active, the total could potentially rise to 53.
