The NFL Coach of the Year award for the 2024-25 season is generating a high level of uncertainty and variation in the NFL odds at our top NFL betting sites, making it one of the most unpredictable markets at this stage of the campaign.

Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns was awarded NFL Coach of the Year for the second time last year, making him one of only 12 coaches in NFL history to achieve this feat. Our top sports betting sites anticipate that Jim Harbaugh, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, will soon follow suit.

After winning the award in 2011 with the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh is now entering his first season in LA with high expectations following his success in leading Michigan to the college football national championship last season. His main rival for the award is Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, who has star quarterback Caleb Williams as his No. 1 pick.

Favorites to win NFL Coach of the Year

Jim Harbaugh (+1400 via FanDuel)

When Harbaugh last took on a new coaching job in the NFL, he won the award in a landslide. It’s no wonder he’s considered the top contender to do the same once more.

His first award-winning season was in 2011 when he guided the San Francisco 49ers to a 13-3 record in his debut season. Over the course of the next four years, Harbaugh managed to achieve the fifth-highest win percentage (69.5%) of any head coach in NFL history before eventually departing, despite having overstayed his welcome.

Harbaugh will bring a new perspective to the Chargers’ organization, and with the talent he has to work with, he has the potential to make an immediate impact. While he could be a strong candidate for this award, his reputation as an elite coach may create lofty expectations that could be difficult to meet.

Raheem Morris (+1200 via DraftKings)

I believe the Falcons have a good chance to exceed expectations as a dark horse contender in 2024, especially with the addition of Kirk Cousins as their new quarterback. Morris seems to be a rookie coach who could potentially make a big impact in the 2024-25 season.

Oddsmakers have already accounted for Morris’ previous coaching record, which was inconsistent with a combined 21-38 record (.356) over four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2009-2011) and the Falcons (2020), by setting short odds on him.

Having collaborated with some of the NFL’s most talented coaches like Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, and Dan Quinn, he played a key role in leading the Los Angeles Rams to victory in the 2021 season. If the Atlanta defense excels in 2024, he is likely to be a top contender for an award.

Dan Campbell (+2500 via FanDuel)

It’s an unusual market for underdogs in the NFL, with top coaches receiving the longest odds due to the high standards they have established for themselves.

This was proven to be true for Dan Campbell in 2023 when he finished third in voting after guiding the Detroit Lions to their first NFC North title in three decades. If the team ascends even further in 2024, Campbell would undoubtedly receive the majority of the credit if Detroit were to secure the top seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history.

With key players and coaches returning from the 2023 season and $60 million in cap space, it is not unreasonable to consider the Lions as potential contenders for the NFC’s best record. The odds of them achieving this could be better than Campbell’s chances of winning Coach of the Year, making it an interesting long-shot bet, especially when compared to other markets offering odds of 25/1 or lower for Campbell.
