The majority of offseason transactions impacted the offensive side of the game, however, we are keeping a close eye on the 2024-25 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds according to the top NFL odds available.

It seemed inevitable that Myles Garrett, a standout pass-rusher of his generation, would eventually claim his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.

In the 2023-24 season, the Cleveland Browns star was able to defend his crown. However, in 2024, he is not the favorite to do so. The Dallas Cowboys star, Micah Parsons, is currently favored to win the title with odds as short as +500. Other contenders close behind Parsons include T.J. Watt, Nick Bosa, and Maxx Crosby.

Favorites to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Micah Parsons (+600 via FanDuel)

Parsons is the top contender for the award in 2024, facing off against three previous winners. Despite the competition, Parsons is the most deserving of the early front-runner title.

The Cowboys’ star player has been the only defender to rank in the top three in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the past three seasons, coinciding with the first three years of Parsons’ career. He has recorded at least 13 sacks in each of those seasons and achieved a career-high 33 quarterback hits last year.

Dallas’ defense may regress in 2023 following the exit of coordinator Dan Quinn, but Parsons could see an increased role under new coordinator Mike Zimmer. If Parsons can continue to excel in a different system, it could bolster his credentials and influence voters.

Nick Bosa (+850 via FanDuel)

What happened to Bosa in 2023? After an impressive season leading the league with 18.5 sacks and winning DPOY honors, the San Francisco 49ers star saw a decline in performance with only 10.5 sacks despite playing an additional game.

Although it is tempting to attribute his success to the record-breaking contract he signed in September, the reality is more nuanced. Bosa recorded more pressures (95) and a higher PFF grade (92.7) in 2023 compared to 2022. However, his sack numbers decreased under the new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

Bosa topped the NFL in tackles for loss with 21 in 2021, indicating that his stats from last year may have been an anomaly. It’s worth monitoring his performance closely; if his odds begin to decrease, it could be a good opportunity to capitalize.
