Despite this impressive record, the team is facing challenges with injuries in their offensive line and a short week leading up to the game. As a result, we anticipate that this streak will come to an end in what is likely to be a defensive battle.
The Lions were missing key offensive linemen Taylor Decker and Halapoulivaati Vaitai in their game against the Atlanta Falcons. Despite not officially recording a sack, the Falcons were able to register nine quarterback hits on Jared Goff. The situation worsened for Detroit when Matt Nelson and practice squad callup Dan Skipper left the game with ankle and hamstring injuries, leaving rookie Colby Sorsdal to finish the game at guard.
If the offense that finished the 2025 season ranked fifth in scoring, fourth in total offense, and sixth in offensive efficiency cannot protect its quarterback (as evidenced by Green Bay’s four sacks in Week 2, three of which came on third down), it will struggle to replicate those impressive statistics.
