Three Team Win Totals to Fade Based on Preseason
Jets Under 5.5 Wins (+135)
The New York Jets were one of only six teams to remain undefeated in this year’s NFL preseason. However, their victories in games that held little significance against opponents who mostly rested their starters should not mislead NFL betting fans into thinking that this team has made a significant turnaround after six consecutive losing seasons.
There are definitely a lot of positive aspects to the team’s direction. The Jets made some great picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, especially cornerback Sauce Gardner, who should improve the Jets’ pass defense that struggled last season. Additionally, the offense could see improvement if wide receiver Elijah Moore continues to excel after an impressive rookie season with 538 receiving yards and five touchdown catches.
The team could be in trouble with starting quarterback Zach Wilson’s injury, especially with four consecutive games against AFC North opponents to start the season. Additionally, the schedule includes tough road games in Green Bay, Denver, and Minnesota, as well as matchups against rapidly improving division rivals.
Adding to the challenge will be the continuous lineup of top-tier pass rushers that the Jets will go up against. This is especially worrying considering that the offensive line let Jets quarterbacks get sacked 53 times last season.
Seahawks Under 5.5 Wins (+115)
Seattle NFL fans are prepared for a tough rebuilding period after the Seahawks traded star QB Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos following their first losing season in ten years. However, with Drew Lock struggling to secure the starting QB position after joining the team in the Wilson trade, the situation could deteriorate further.
Lock showed promise in his first preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, throwing two touchdown passes in a close loss. However, he struggled in the following games and ultimately lost the starting job to Geno Smith. Smith, now 31 years old, hasn’t been a starting quarterback in eight years. While he didn’t have any standout moments in the preseason, he also didn’t score any touchdowns.
The Seahawks are working to minimize the pain of their ongoing rebuild, with head coach Pete Carroll’s creative strategies leading the way. However, fans should brace themselves for a potentially lengthy season and practice patience.
Cardinals Under 8.5 Wins (-110)
Super Bowl 57 is set to be held at State Farm Stadium, the Arizona Cardinals’ home turf. However, as the preseason came to a close, there was little indication that the Cardinals would be playing in front of their home crowd on Super Bowl Sunday.
Other than their victory over the Bengals in the preseason opener, the Cardinals failed to make a strong impression in August. Trace McSorley filled in admirably for injured quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy, but ultimately was released on Tuesday. Murray and McCoy are now healthy and expected to play. However, the team is dealing with setbacks such as DeAndre Hopkins’ suspension and Zach Ertz’s injury issues, causing concerns for their receiving corps.
The absences and injuries of key players are a major concern for the Cardinals as they gear up for a challenging first month of their schedule, which includes matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams.
