We anticipate a close matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and Detroit Lions in Week 8’s Monday Night Football game, despite the spread. Our top Raiders vs. Lions predictions are based on the NFL odds provided by our top sports betting apps.

During Week 7, the Las Vegas Raiders switched to Brian Hoyer at quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo got injured. This move quickly backfired, as the Raiders suffered a 30-12 defeat against the Chicago Bears, extending Hoyer’s losing streak to 13 games as a starter. Las Vegas’s record fell to 0-4 in games where they had three or more turnovers.

In addition, the team’s offense has been struggling to put points on the board, scoring 21 or fewer points in their last eight games, which dates back to last year and mirrors their performance in the 2012-13 season. Luckily, Garoppolo has returned and has the opportunity to lead the Raiders to victory in a prime time game, potentially turning their season around.

During Week 7, the Detroit Lions experienced a setback as they were defeated 38-6 by the Baltimore Ravens on the road. This loss not only ended their four-game winning streak but also put an end to their franchise-record streak of scoring at least 20 points in 15 consecutive games.

After a disappointing performance last week, Detroit is likely to be the favored team for betting due to their recent impressive winning streak and strong record. Despite their loss to the Ravens, viewed as a formidable opponent, it is seen as a better defeat compared to losing to the Bears, who had a rookie quarterback making his NFL debut.

With Garoppolo back at quarterback this week, we can overlook many of Las Vegas’ inefficiencies compared to Chicago. Hoyer has shown that his best days are in the past. Garoppolo began the season with the third-highest completion percentage (68%) since 2017 and leads in yards per attempt (8.3) and yards after catch per completion (8.3) during that time frame.

Despite having Bagent as their quarterback, Chicago has consistently proven to be a tough opponent for the Raiders. Las Vegas was ranked 28th in EPA against the run last week, while Chicago’s rushing offense was ranked fourth in EPA. However, the Raiders’ defense also ranked fourth in dropbacks EPA and 12th in EPA per play, so as long as they are not overpowered in the trenches, they should be able to contain Goff’s offensive capabilities.

Detroit’s ground game suffered a major setback when star running back David Montgomery was sidelined with a rib injury, expected to be out for several weeks. Montgomery, who has scored six touchdowns this season, was sorely missed as the Lions relied heavily on passing, with only 14 rushing attempts compared to 53 pass attempts in Week 7.

The negative game script played a role, but it is possible that head coach Dan Campbell lacks trust in rookie Jahmyr Gibbs as a featured back compared to Montgomery. With Detroit’s running game struggling and Garoppolo back at quarterback, we are recommending a three-star bet on the Raiders to cover the spread.
