The start of Week 16 in the NFL features the Los Angeles Rams taking on the New Orleans Saints in a crucial matchup with playoff implications. Our prediction for Thursday Night Football between the Saints and Rams is based on the most favorable NFL odds available.

With just three weeks left in the 2023 NFL regular season, the New Orleans Saints (7-7) and the Los Angeles Rams (7-7) are in a must-win situation on Thursday to keep their playoff hopes alive and stay in contention for a Super Bowl berth.

One team will face a setback as they go head-to-head on Thursday Night Football to start Week 16.

After their Week 10 break, the Rams have been on a hot streak, winning four out of five games to stay in contention for an NFC Wild Card spot. On the other hand, the Saints are on a two-game winning streak heading into Thursday’s game and are currently tied with the Buccaneers for the lead in the NFC South.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been on a hot streak in the past four weeks, throwing the most touchdown passes in the league (12) and ranking in the top five in passing yards (265 YPG) and big-time throws (nine). During that stretch, he has only thrown one interception, the least of any full-time starter. His passer rating of 112.6 is second only to NFL MVP favorite Brock Purdy among qualified starters.

Saints quarterback Derek Carr had an impressive performance last week, throwing for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns against the struggling New York Giants. It was his first game in over a month without throwing an interception. However, Carr has faced challenges in elevating the team’s offense against stronger defenses, particularly as he deals with multiple injuries.

The run game of New Orleans has struggled and will be challenged by a Rams defense that has been one of the best in the league against the run since their Week 10 bye, allowing the fifth-fewest rushing yards at 89.2 yards per game.

The most notable disparity can be seen on the opposite side of the field. While the Saints’ run defense has historically been a strong point, it has shown vulnerabilities in 2023, particularly in the latter part of the season. They will face a tough challenge in containing the rising star Kyren Williams, who currently leads the league in rushing yards per game (95.3) and success rate (59.7%), with an impressive average of 131 yards over his last five games.

The Rams have a perfect 4-0 record against the spread since Williams came back from injury midway through the season, and they are also 2-0 ATS when favored by four points or more this season. It is likely that both streaks will persist on Thursday.
