On Sunday night, the Denver Broncos will take on the San Francisco 49ers as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo makes his first start of the year, stepping in as Trey Lance’s backup.

Despite the hype surrounding San Francisco’s improvement with Jimmy G leading the team, the 49ers actually rely heavily on their running game, averaging 41 rushing attempts per game. While this strategy may benefit their running backs, it could potentially limit Jimmy G’s passing opportunities.

These are our favorite prop picks for Sunday Night Football in NFL Week 3, with odds from Caesars, DraftKings, and BetMGM.

Sunday Night Football Props

Garoppolo Under 235.5 passing yards (-119) ★★★★

Despite potential changes in San Francisco’s offensive strategy with Jimmy G or Trey Lance at quarterback, the 49ers have consistently relied on a strong running game this season. In 2020, with Garoppolo as the starter, they ranked sixth in the league by running the ball an average of 29.3 times per game. Although Garoppolo had only seven out of 15 games with less than 237.5 passing yards in 2021, three of his last five games fell below the 200-yard mark.

The Broncos’ defense has been strong against the pass, allowing only 165.5 passing yards per game, which ranks 5th best in the NFL. The 49ers are expected to rely on their running game to control the clock and restrict Garoppolo’s passing chances.

Samuel Over 32.5 rushing yards (-115) ★★★

The 49ers lost starting running back Elijah Mitchell in Week 1. Even before Mitchell’s injury, RB Deebo Samuel received carries and ended with 52 rushing yards. San Francisco also lost backup RB Tyrion Davis-Price to an injury in Week 2. Despite this, Samuel still managed to run for 53 yards. Although Jeff Wilson is the starting RB for the 49ers, Samuel had 59 rushing attempts in 2021, more than any other receiver on the team.

Samuel surpassed 32.5 rushing yards only five times last season. With the O-line now averaging 182.5 rushing yards per game, ranking 4th best in the league, it is anticipated that Samuel will be the second leading running back behind Wilson this season.

1st Field Goal on or before 13:00 – Yes (-115) ★★★★★

Both teams were able to advance the ball down the field, but neither team was able to score a touchdown on their opening possessions last week. Denver scored a field goal 9 minutes and 27 seconds into the game, while San Francisco also kicked a field goal within the first 13 minutes, with their score coming 6 minutes and 40 seconds into the first quarter.

McManus Over 1.5 field goals made (-110) ★★★★★

Denver placekicker Brandon McManus has kicked two field goals in each of this year’s contests. In the previous season, when quarterback Drew Lock was less efficient, McManus made over two field goals in eight games. Despite the Broncos’ ability to move the ball effectively, ranking seventh in yards per game with 391.5, they have struggled to convert these opportunities into points, ranking 16th in points per game.
