The Kansas City Chiefs have secured consecutive Lombardi Trophies, yet the San Francisco 49ers, who finished as runners-up, are quickly gaining ground on the frontrunners in the 2025 Super Bowl odds according to top Super Bowl betting sites.

Five months following the Chiefs’ victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl 58, the top sports betting sites are predicting that these two teams will once again be favorites to compete against each other for the third time in six seasons.

It is expected that the two-time defending champions will be the favorites to win Super Bowl 59, set to take place in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025. Kansas City has already been listed as a 3-point favorite in NFL Week 1 odds for their game against the Baltimore Ravens, who have the second-best odds behind the Chiefs and 49ers.

After a devastating collapse in the NFC Championship last year, the Detroit Lions are ranked fourth. The Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, who have been the biggest challengers to NFL MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes in the last five postseasons, are ranked fifth and sixth respectively. Training camps are set to begin later this month.

2025 Super Bowl favorites

Chiefs (+600)

For 18 weeks, the Chiefs struggled on the field. Their receivers consistently dropped passes, their key players appeared fatigued, and the reigning champions appeared far from being a legitimate title contender.

Afterward, Mahomes and his team turned things around in the playoffs to win their second consecutive Lombardi Trophy, proving that the greatest players should not be evaluated solely based on their performance in the regular season. As a result, I anticipate that the price will remain steady leading up to the 2025 postseason.

Kansas City is feeling positive about their on-field prospects following the decision to retain Chris Jones and bring in speedy receivers Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy. Although losing L’Jarius Sneed will be a setback, with the leadership of Steve Spagnuolo, Andy Reid, and Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs remain a formidable team to face.

49ers (+650)

The Niners didn’t quite make it to Super Bowl 58, but there’s a strong case to be made that they were the top team on paper last season. They were dominant when at full strength, boasting a record-breaking offense, and their defense gelled towards the end of the year despite a few bumps in the road.

Coach Kyle Shanahan made a decision to switch things up by replacing defensive coordinator Steve Wilks with Nick Sorensen and adding new assistant head coach Brandon Staley. Despite the changes on defense, the 49ers are expected to maintain the majority of their talented offensive players, making them a tough team to match up against.

This team has reached four NFC Championships and two Super Bowls since 2019, both ending in losses to Kansas City. The Niners held a 10-point lead in both games, showing they have a strong chance to win the Lombardi Trophy next February.

Ravens (+1000)

If only the Ravens had focused more on running the ball, it could have been the key factor holding back John Harbaugh’s team from making their first Super Bowl appearance during the Lamar Jackson era.

In his second MVP season in five years, Jackson had an outstanding performance, totaling 4,499 yards and 29 touchdowns. The Baltimore defense was the best in the league, allowing the fewest points per game (16.5) and boasting the second-best red-zone defense (40.8%). The team’s run game led the league in yards per game (156.5) and was just one touchdown shy of the league lead with 26 touchdowns.

Naturally, the Ravens attempted to pass the ball against Kansas City’s top-notch defense in the AFC Championship, but now they have the whole offseason to reflect on their errors. It seems likely that they will focus on running the ball next season, especially with their new star rusher Derrick Henry in the backfield.

The Ravens were the top team last year with a record of 13-4 and a point differential of plus-203. Despite some losses on defense, they are expected to remain a strong contender throughout the entire NFL season.

Caesars offers the best odds at +1000, implying a probability of 9.09%.

My Super Bowl pick to watch

Falcons (+2800)

We previously had the Texans in this position earlier in the offseason, and although I am optimistic about Houston’s prospects, the market has already reduced the value of the AFC’s promising new contender.

Instead, I am looking beyond the favorites and focusing on the Falcons, who have odds as low as 25/1. They recently signed QB Kirk Cousins, who had an impressive season last year and could potentially be in the running for MVP. Although Atlanta also drafted Michael Penix Jr. early on, they already have a strong offensive lineup with young talents like Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts, who are expected to continue to improve in the upcoming seasons.

The defense is the main focus, but new head coach Raheem Morris has a track record of success, turning around a Los Angeles Rams defense that was limited by salary cap constraints and lacked youthful talent. I believe he can work similar magic with a team that includes standout players like safety Jessie Bates and cornerback A.J. Terrell.

Top odds available at BetMGM are +2800, implying a 3.45% probability.

AFC championship odds

The Chiefs have dominated the AFC, winning four out of the last five years. Despite a heartbreaking loss to the Bengals in a game where they held an 18-point lead, Kansas City is still favored to win the conference once again.

However, the Ravens are making a strong push for the top spot this year after claiming the No. 1 seed last season. The Bengals and Bills are eager for another chance to compete against Mahomes. Keep an eye on the Texans, who now have Stefon Diggs as their top wide receiver, playing alongside the up-and-coming star quarterback C.J. Stroud and a surprisingly solid defense.

NFC championship odds

The 49ers have yet to secure their first Super Bowl win under the Shanahan era, but they have made it to the NFC Championship four times in the past five years. They have also clinched two conference titles, including last year’s impressive comeback victory over the Lions.

Detroit is expected to make a strong showing with their returning talent, while the Eagles are looking to bounce back after a tough season following their Super Bowl win. The Packers and Cowboys also have the potential to make an impact if their young players continue to develop in the upcoming season.

Super Bowl 2025 exact matchup odds

If you’re seeking an entertaining way to potentially win big, consider predicting the Super Bowl 2025 matchup. The Chiefs and 49ers are currently the favorites for a rematch, making them popular choices in this market.

Please note that the odds are not usually in your favor for a bet like this, as it combines the AFC and NFC champions into one bet. It is difficult enough to predict one winner, so approach with caution and consider it more of a fun bet with the potential for a big payout.

Not only is it difficult to choose the finalists, but you could also earn a larger reward by accurately predicting the outcome of Super Bowl 2025.

Oddsmakers believe that the most probable outcome of the upcoming game is a repeat of last year’s result, with the Chiefs defeating the 49ers. However, the +2500 odds only give this scenario a 3.85% chance of occurring for the third time in six seasons.

How to bet on the Super Bowl

Placing bets on the Super Bowl market is a popular yet difficult task for sports bettors. Success requires a careful balance between a team’s performance in the regular season and their ability to excel in the postseason.

To start, it is important to assess a team’s potential to qualify for the playoffs, as each conference has seven teams competing, with the No. 1 seed earning a first-round bye. This aspect is crucial, as historically, the top-seeded teams in each conference often advance to and win the Super Bowl. Therefore, placing bets on a high-performing team during the regular season is a reliable strategy for success in this market.

With that being said, a team’s performance in the postseason is often closely tied to the performance of their quarterback, the coaching staff, and having a strong defense. This winning formula has been consistent for many years, and although having a top-tier defense may be the least crucial of the three factors, there are limited franchise quarterbacks and elite coaches available.

The Kansas City Chiefs, guided by Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, have secured back-to-back Super Bowl victories and three out of the last five. This trend is reflected in the fact that most Super Bowl champions typically have odds below 10/1 at the start of the season, as these teams possess the essential components needed to succeed and make it to the championship game in February.

How to read Super Bowl odds

Understanding the workings of odds is essential when betting on the Super Bowl. In basic terms, American odds indicate the amount of money you would either win on a $100 bet or need to wager to receive $100 in return.

For instance, the Kansas City Chiefs started with +750 odds to win the 2025 Super Bowl. This implies that a $100 wager at those odds would yield a $750 profit, while a $10 bet would result in a $75 profit. Even a $1 bet could earn a $7.50 return if Kansas City manages to secure its third consecutive championship this February.

A team such as the Houston Texans, who started with odds of +2500, could potentially earn a profit of $2,500 if they were to win the Super Bowl. However, these odds indicate that the Texans have a low chance of winning, with an implied probability of just 3.85% according to our odds converter.

As we approach the Big Game, you might notice a team with “negative” odds. For instance, the San Francisco 49ers had odds of -125 before Super Bowl 58, which means you would have to bet $125 to win $100, or $12.50 to win $10. It’s important to be cautious when betting on teams with negative odds, as even though they may seem like a safe bet, sports are always full of surprises and uncertainties.
