Vikings vs. Eagles Predictions, Picks, Odds Week 2: Thursday Night Football
Get ready for the showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 2 of the NFL season. We’ve got you covered with our top prediction for the Vikings-Eagles matchup, taking into account the latest NFL odds.
Minnesota’s regression became apparent following their exceptional 11-0 record in close games last season. The decline was evident from the beginning of this season, as the Vikings lost 20-17 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. In the final moments of the game, Minnesota struggled to gain any traction, managing only six plays and six yards on their last two drives.
Philadelphia is striving to steer clear of the unfortunate trend that has plagued many Super Bowl runners-up in past seasons, with 17 out of 56 teams failing to make the playoffs the following year. Yet, the Eagles managed to overcome this hurdle by securing a 25-20 win against the New England Patriots in Week 1, extending their streak of season-opening victories under head coach Nick Sirianni to 3-0.
Below is our top prediction for the Vikings vs. Eagles game on Thursday Night Football, along with player props for both teams. Odds are provided by our recommended NFL betting sites, and pick confidence is rated on a 1-to-5-star scale.
Vikings vs. Eagles prediction: Thursday Night Football
Eagles -7 (+100 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐
Minnesota probably wishes they had capitalized on the opportunities they had in the first half to build a larger lead against Tampa Bay. Despite out-gaining the Buccaneers 287-96 in the first 30 minutes, the Vikings were unable to maintain momentum due to three turnovers.
In the first half, the Buccaneers gave up 11 first downs and Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson had an impressive game with seven catches for 138 yards. However, in the second half, Tampa Bay tightened up their defense, allowing only 82 total yards and seven first downs. They also limited Jefferson to just 12 yards on two receptions. With this in mind, we are hopeful for a strong comeback from Jefferson in our player prop bets.
Minnesota’s offense will struggle to move the ball if they cannot establish a more reliable running game, especially after losing Dalvin Cook. The Vikings running backs only managed 34 yards on 14 carries, with Alexander Mattison gaining more than five yards on just two attempts.
Minnesota’s offensive line struggles extend beyond just run blocking, with the unit ranking last in quarterback hits allowed and putting pressure on 23.3% of dropbacks, according to Pro Football Reference. This is concerning, especially considering they are facing an Eagles defense that recorded 70 sacks last season, tied for the third-most in NFL history, and ranked first in the league in Pass Rush Win Rate.
Last week’s game against the Buccaneers took a drastic turn once they were able to shut down Jefferson. This is particularly concerning because Philadelphia’s cornerback duo of Darius Slay and James Bradberry is widely considered the best in the NFL, and their secondary as a whole was ranked third by PFF.
The Eagles narrowly covered as 3.5-point favorites against the Patriots last week. They are now favored by a touchdown in our NFL Week 2 odds and betting lines. It is important to note that they were up against one of the greatest coaches of all time, who had ample time to prepare for their distinct offensive strategy. Additionally, this was their first game without their offensive and defensive coordinators from the previous season.
Philadelphia has a clear advantage on offense with star wide receivers A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. Minnesota’s defense struggled against wide receivers last season, ranking poorly in passing yards allowed, QBR, and completion percentage. However, if the new Brian Flores-led defense plays conservatively to account for Philadelphia’s strong passing game, the Eagles’ impressive running game could be the key to victory. With a high run-block win rate and a record-breaking number of rushing touchdowns, Philadelphia’s ground game will likely determine the outcome of the game.
Evans Santiago’s prediction for an anytime touchdown scorer on Thursday focuses on the Eagles’ rushing attack.

Vikings vs. Eagles best odds
Caesars (+100)
All five of our top sports betting apps agree on the 7-point spread, with DraftKings being the only one offering less than the standard -110 juice on both sides. It is surprising to see DraftKings offering lower juice on the 1-0 team compared to the team that lost last week. This line is significantly higher than the -3 point spread from last year’s meeting, where the Eagles defeated the Vikings 24-7 in Week 2 at home.

Vikings vs. Eagles odds analysis
Caesars’ early line in mid-August had the Eagles as 6-point favorites for this game, but after Week 1 results were in, all major sports betting sites opened with a spread greater than a touchdown. FanDuel and BetRivers briefly offered +8 before Vikings supporters pushed it down to +7.5. The spread remained at +7.5 for most of Monday morning before sharp action caused it to drop to +7, despite 80% of bets being on the Eagles. This reverse line movement suggests smart money may be leaning towards the Vikings.
Just like the point spread, the 48.5-point total is consistent across all of our top sportsbooks. However, BetRivers is the only one offering odds on the Under at -115. DraftKings started at 49 but has already dropped, while the rest have remained steady at 48.5 as of Monday.
Moneyline supporters should take notice of Philadelphia’s -290 odds on DraftKings (with BetMGM offering -350), given that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has an impressive record of winning 18 out of his last 19 regular season starts. If you’re interested in betting on Hurts, check out our Jalen Hurts player props.
